Guest guest
Hi everyone, Never a dull moment with me. I have been on augmentin for 17 days for a sinus infection and about a week ago I started itching on the arms and legs, however no rash, no bumps etc. and I dont know what it's from. Really wierd, it's my forearms and only the lower part of my legs, from knee to ankles.. more calves and ankles than arms but not an unbearable itch, just lousy, both legs, both arms...I thought it was my soap so I changed it, thought it was the new sheets from last friday's housecleaning, and changed them, but it's still there, one day better, one day worse. I'm stopping the antibiotics today, the sinus is still problematic and I want to see if it could be a reaction to the augmentin (heard of reactions even two weeks after starting antibiotics and it started when I was 9 days into the stuff) but maybe someone knows what else it could be? I dont have any other symptoms of anything, other than the usual CFS, also no symptoms of diabetes, which can cause itching. however I am in the middle of a period of neurological symptoms, probably CFS caused, all the neurological tests so far have been fine. Anyone know if it could be connected? Or is the best bet to stop the augmentin and see if it is caused by that? Judy

Guest guest
Hi! Judy I highly recommend tea tree oil. It is available in most stores. It is also an anti-bacterial, but it's ability to stop itching is instantaneous and permanent. My local grocery store sells it as a lotion, although it still looks like oil, and it works just as good as the pure oil. Merle judy wrote: > Anyone know of this one? Guest guest
Well, this is just weird. Since I've been on abx/Lovenox and supplements, I've had some powerful itching, especially at bedtime. As soon as I get one spot scratched, another one fires, etc., and it's incessant. I've never experienced anything like this in my life. This isn't every night and now I keep a lotion by the bed to try to ease it a little. I have no idea why this is happening. Laurie L. Guest guest
Judy, I don't know if it's the same thing, but I have itched for years now, even before I crashed in '96, if I recall, although not to the degree of the past five years. Sometimes I kind of itch all over, sometimes it's fairly localized. Seems to be worse at night - I will awaken sometimes and literally have claw marks on my skin ( no more nails) from where I scratched myself in my sleep. How one sleeps through such a scratch session as to leave claw marks I don't know, since sleep is such an elusive thing anyway, but...anyway, I do have allergies, but take shots, etc for them, so I don't think it's allergies as much as toxins or junk trying to leave the skin, although. like you, there is nothing visible except my scratch marks. I have been doing the castor oil packs, and every so often now I notice a rash that kind of looks like prickly heat in the area where I have had the pack. That rash never itches though. Just looks weird - kind of like - what crud is exiting now? Donna in NC itching > Anyone know of this one? Guest guest
It's probably the histamine part of herx'ing. Do you take benadryl with it? Mine has gotten better, but for months when I took the doxy/heparin, my eyes would water and my nose would start running like crazy, and I would cough. I had to take benadryl. Guest guest
Interesting Donna, last night when I was nearly in tears, my husband suggested that it might be a sign of my getting better with the toxins leaving my body through the skin....anyhow I went to the dermatologist this morning, he said that if the blood tests were ok (which they were), the sugar and urine tests ok( which they were) and I have absolutely nothing on the skin, it is probably nerves. As I have been so nervous with this disease lately, anything is possible. Anyhow he gave me a cortisone ointment for two weeks and 20 days of antihistamine once a day at night (bedtime) and we will see if it will be better. And now again a question - what would I do without all your knowledge everyone (many thanks!!!) - does anyone think that baths might help? Sulphur (we have lots of sulphur springs around), epsom salts? any other suggestions? Thanks again, Judy B. itching > > > > Anyone know of this one? Guest guest
Judy, I zeroed in on the prickling like pins in your first post which is nothing like a regular itching from toxins or any type of dermatitis. I did that for years, and no bath or lotion helps that if that is the type of itching you are having. The best way I know to describe this type of sensation is when your arm or leg has gone to sleep and as it wakes up you get that prickling sensation. I actually had some itching between my shoulders that is almost certainly the shingles virus but re I do not break out. Isoprinosine has helped that. The pins prickling in the legs was not helped by that or anything but the things that helped my global symptoms....B12 injections, Sinequan, Klonopin and I believe if you tolerated some low dose Neurontin that '*might* help this most of all. If you tried it and it did not help, then there is possibly a blood flow problem to the nerves like in diabetic neuropathy and possible virus/es attacking the nevers and possible CNS sensory problems according to what Dr. Cheney has told me regarding pin prickling 'nerve' itching. Guest guest
I have had hives with intense itching the whole time I have had CFS for five years. It is helped at times by different things including antihistamine combos when I have to, or in the beginning antifungals. Itching is known to be worse at night, don't know why. Oatmeal baths sometimes help. When I read about how things are eased with FM in hot water altho it may not be the best to do, I wonder about itching and related cell activity. > Well, this is just weird. Guest guest
Judy, baths help me. Epsom salts or Oatmeal. Sulfur is a big detoxifier so I don't know if that would help or not. Ppl use sulfur baths to detox from mercury and to date they make me pretty sick. Just a word of warning. The best antihistamine combo I have found is zrytec and zantac (10 mg of zrytec and 300 mg of zantac). Together they hit alot of the histamine receptors. It's not a cure but will sometimes give relief. The other thing you could try is no sugar, starches etc and an antifungal. That has helped me in the past. And, yes, nerves. When I get upset I itch way more. Also it is a know thing that itching is worse at night. I don't know why - something at play here... cortisol levels? Thyrod levels? Subconscious coming through more? Don't know. Hope you find relief. > Interesting Donna, last night when I was nearly in tears, my husband > suggested that it might be a sign of my getting better with the toxins > leaving my body through the skin....anyhow I went to the dermatologist this > morning, he said that if the blood tests were ok (which they were), the > sugar and urine tests ok( which they were) and I have absolutely nothing on > the skin, it is probably nerves. Guest guest
Dear , Now its in the fingers, I look at my hands and nothing, no redness, no signs of anything...who knows. If it doesn't go away in a few weeks with the antihistamine and ointment I will ask for thyroid tests, did them a year and a half ago and they were fine but I'm 42 and things change. take care, J. Guest guest
You can also try bathing with baking soda; that might be more likely than epsom salts to soothe/counter itching. BTW, I think I notice that on the list of side-effects of hydroxo (injectable) that itching is a possibility. I too have been experiencing more itching and wondered if it's the hydroxo. Mine is annoying only and not constant. The cortisone salve should help. Oatmeal baths are also soothing, but I think baking soda baths might work best. Guest guest
Judy again, At 18:55 13/07/01, you wrote: >Interesting Donna, last night when I was nearly in tears, my husband >suggested that it might be a sign of my getting better with the toxins >leaving my body through the skin....anyhow I went to the dermatologist this >morning, he said that if the blood tests were ok (which they were), the >sugar and urine tests ok( which they were) and I have absolutely nothing on >the skin, it is probably nerves. Possible, but probably crap. I have awful itching of a dry, uncomfortable, skin-wrinkling kind that I find impossible to describe. It was supposed to be stress/ 'nerves' related until I went to do my time in an allergy ward where they isolate you from everything and gradually re-introduce things to see what you are sensitive too. In my case, I get very very bad itching from a) newspapers, something in most modern woven cloths except plain silk and calico - most likely a texture treatment. If I can stay away from these (which is difficult) I have no itching. If I am exposed to either, life becomes hell for a day or so. This is the sort of thing that dermatoligists are most useless about, and most dogmatic about to boot. It is one of the weirdnesses of the medical profession that they become more dogmatic when they know least. >As I have been so nervous with this disease >lately, anything is possible. Anyhow he gave me a cortisone ointment for two >weeks and 20 days of antihistamine once a day at night (bedtime) and we will >see if it will be better. If it is an allergy the cortisone and the antihistamine will make them feel better I guess, but to me this means find the cause(s) rather than taking possibly problematical drugs. Personally although I am absolutely certain that my itches are a response to newspaper print and textile treatments, the itch does not respond much to antihistamines, so it may not be an allergy but some kind of other sensitivity. >And now again a question - what would I do without all your knowledge >everyone (many thanks!!!) - does anyone think that baths might help? HOT baths are my only cure - I have found previously that hot baths are in some way anti-allergy, so this tends to support the theory that it is an allergy. But they have to be hot, like 40 deg c in my case, or more, for 20 minutes, or more. Or a sauna. I have tried additives but found no difference, it is the hotness that does the trick for me. Hope this helps, n
Guest guest
Dear n, Everything you say makes a lot of sense. For the few years before coming down with CFS I had all sorts of allergic rhinitis reactions, to newsprint, to my sofa, we didnt know to what, got rid of everything and then I got CFS.. J. Guest guest
, Yes. It's usually a sign of training too high. It could also be secondary to releasing locked up energy ( has this response sometimes after training down at the temporals. Try that F4 and T4 squish and see if she has the same responses. Ever heard of this? Thanks,

Guest guest
Hi Sandy, This is one of the reasons I love this list. You think you're the only one and then find out....not. I just told Jill that this had been happening for years, but only now and then. I would change soap, shampoo, foods, stop and start supplements again, but nothing changed. Then when taking antibiotics for lyme I really got going. First I became allergic to all ABX then my supplements and now I just don't know what. Isn't it strange that movement and heat make it worse? Does polyclonal gammopathy cause this sever burning and itching. It's like a sunburn being rubbed with sandpaper. Is that what the test is called cuz I'll get one for sure. Thanks for sharing your experience. Edy sandie0874 <HallLeibow@...> wrote: Hi Edy, I have the same intense itching EVERYWHERE on and off, drives me crazy! Feels like an intense allergic reaction, yet no rash anywhere. Like you, I have no itching at night, starts after I get moving in the morning. I usually stop taking all supplements and try to eat only foods that have never given me problems but nothing seems to help. My doctor thinks it could be yeast, hormonal, liver or lyme related. Liver enzymes are normal though. Recently had a serum immunofixation test which showed " polyclonal gammopathy " with very high counts for immunoglobulins G, A and M. Sandy > > Hi Rich, Yes, I've actually taken the VCS test 3 times in the past 2 years and passed with flying colors. From what I understand maybe 1 in 10 do pass this crucial test and still have toxins from mold. I'm thinking I also need to join the yeast list because I've been tested on several occassions and am off the charts high with antibodies and organisms. Blood and stool tests. Maybe you have some insight on this. I itch EVERYWHERE. Even my tongue and throat. Bottoms of feet, palms, just miserable with it. I've been doing HBOT for lyme for 4 months at home and thought for a while it was die off, but now think might be yeast stuff. I'm clueless. At first just itched when I took or ate something, but now it's constant. Here's the weird thing, tho. Not when I'm asleep. I wake up fine and after moving around a bit, here it comes. Any thoughts? Sorry to be picking your brain so much today. Smiles, Edy >
Guest guest
Microwaves and other electrosmog have the effect of turning on your mast cells which release histamine and cause itching. It could be one possible cause. paul -- In , " sandie0874 " < HallLeibow@...> wrote: > > Hi Edy, > > I have the same intense itching EVERYWHERE on and off, drives me > crazy! Guest guest
Edy, My doctor said that the polyclonal gammopathy result from the immunofixation test was " non-specific and just shows that your body is making a ton of antibodies " . I get that bad sunburnt feeling too but it isn't as bad as the itching. Never had these symptoms before I got sick. I've tried everything. Did some researching today. It's interesting that both " skin itching " and " skin sunburn sensation " both appear on a symptoms survey form on Dr. Garth Nicolson's site (along with many other symptoms I have). http://www.immed.org/signsympt.htm Have you been tested for mycoplasma infections? I think that is one type of infection that Dr. Nicolson focuses on. About a year ago I was positive for mycoplasma pneumoniae (PCR test).
