Iodine for dog with low albumin

My 10 1/2 year old Sheltie has low albumin and the vet is doing testing to figure out the cause (probably Protein-Losing Nephropathy). The prognosis for all the causes of low albumin is dreadful, but I'm hoping iodine will help her. I know that I can give it in her water, but she doesn't really drink a lot. I feed her dehydrated food that I reconstitute with warm water. I can add Lugol's to this, right? I have 2% Lugol's. How many drops would you recommend for an 18 lb dog? Also, what detox symptoms have people experienced with dogs?Thank you, Marge
