Guest guest
I've been taking large doses of iodine (Iosol and Iodoral both) for about a year. My bromine levels have come down but still a bit high. Recently learned about lithium supplements which seem to help me with sleeplessness. Saw that taking lithium is connected with causing hypothyroidism and messing with iodine usage by cells--exactly what I DON'T want. But there is so little info avail. I wonder what to think. Did a search, several sources sound the alarm not to take these together. But... what do the naturopaths here think, and has anyone had any personal experience with using these both? Should I just work on iodine/bromine first until hopefully reaching a normalization/organification? Lithium in small amounts sounds really good for nerve/brain health, and I've had serious autonomic and trigeminal nerve problems/pain, which led me to iodine readings and trying it... would like to use both but being cautious. Thanks for any help.
Guest guest
I do not have a thyroid but when I was working on beating thyroid cancer I took Lithium and Iodine. Buist, ND HC iodine and lithium supplements - OK to take together? I've been taking large doses of iodine (Iosol and Iodoral both) for about a year. Guest guest
You want to take the lithium orotate form, which is not destroyed in the stomach as is the aspartate form. I take lithium orotate and I'm extremely happpy with my iodine protocol. I have fibromyalgia and it's been very helpful, both the iodine and the lithium. Lithium is an extremely important mineral that actually removes naturally occurring toxic metobolites from the brain that are a normal part of brain function, as well exogenous toxins (externally sourced). And as you noted, there is widespead deficiency in lithium (Dr says 100% of patients he has tested have been low so he no longer tests). This is another case where the form of the mineral makes all the difference. In this case, the form of lithium carbonate, which is the form used as a drug, has extremely low bioavailability, and the supplement level at which lith carb can enter the cells is extremely close to the level at which lithium is toxic -- the the ghastly side effects it produces. Lith orotate (and aspartate, but not recommended) don't have this problem. So you take a microdose and get the benefits. I really like the following site for info on this, and Dr 's article is great. But the whole site is a great resource: http://mysite.verizon.net/res003jh/lithium-orotate/id13.html -- moderator On 15 Feb 2012 at 15:07, Buist, ND HC wrote: > > > > I do not have a thyroid but when I was working on beating thyroid > cancer I took Lithium and Iodine. > > Buist, ND HC > > iodine and lithium supplements - OK to take > together? > > > I've been taking large doses of iodine (Iosol and Iodoral both) for > about a year.
