Guest guest
Hi Barry, As you most likely know, by these numbers, you are VERY hypothyroid. There is a common misconception that taking NTH is a failure, but actually it is exactly what your body needs! The main idea is for us to get healthy and NTH is a wonderful material; I take it myself and I always say, God Bless the Pigs! Kind regards, Kathleen moderator *gentle bump* will iodine alone do the trick these are my latest thyroid numbers:TSH 2.63 (0.35-5.5)Free T3 2.46 (2.3-4.2)Free T4 0.6 (0.8-1.7)Is it possible that taking iodine alone may get my thyroidnumbers back up, or do i also need to take dessicated thyroid? i would much rather heal my body by adding the ingredients that it needs, than taking additional hormones. has anyone had their thyroid numbers come back to normal by using iodine alone? i am only up to 1/2 drop of lugols a day (i am very sensitive and have been detoxing like mad), but the change in my energy, brain fog, and mood has been dramatic. i am so looking forward to getting to higher levels. thanks, barry
Guest guest
but is it possible that my thyroid could recover with iodine alone? is it never the case or can it happen sometimes? barry > > Hi Barry, > As you most likely know, by these numbers, you are VERY hypothyroid. Guest guest
imo people with low thyroid function who want to avoid taking thyroid hormones are putting the cart before the horse. The entire metabolism depends on the thyroid, including the brain, which is basically all metabolism. The thyroid is the engine of the metabolism. Because of its central importance, the body protects the thyroid as much as it can. By the time someone's thyroid function is impaired, they've been sick a long time, and their metabolism is shot. So while you might be able to get back off thyroid hormones once you've started based on iodine supplementation, I think it highly unlikely anyone will recover thyroid function without the hormones on board because those very hormones are required to heal the body and utilize nutrients. (This may not be the case for people who are borderline with thyroid problems, but I believe it is true for anyone with clearly impaired function.) Thyroid hormones are not a drug. They are a replacement of a hormone, the natural function of which is out of whack. In that sense they are more like a deficient nutrient being replaced. In any case, it remains sadly true that only a tiny percentage of people with thyroid malfunction are able to regain their natural function again (because once the thyroid function is impaired the body is severely crippled and can't really heal *anything* for itself because of lack of metabolism). Most people need to take thyroid hormones for life. In doingi so, one also needs to furnish the iodine protocol in order to have optimal health. By providing your body this range of nutrients, you will attain health. Once healthy, you may be able to overcome the malfunction. But it's unlikely without starting your engine again with hormones, and of course I strongly believe in NTH. I took synthroid for years and as soon as I changed to NTH I felt like my energy was coming from within myself again instead of being imposed from outside. So to get back to this problem of people thinking they are doing themselves some kind of favor by withholding replacement thyroid hormones, you're simply not. Withholding those hormones is a type of perfectionism. And there is no health perfection. No one over the age of 18 has perfect health. All we can achieve is optimal health. -- moderator On 23 Feb 2012 at 18:43, Kathleen Blake wrote: > > > > Hi Barry, > As you most likely know, by these numbers, you are VERY hypothyroid. > There is a common misconception that taking NTH is a failure, but > actually it is exactly what your body needs! Guest guest
Maybe but it is probably a stretch. The more hypo you are generally the more damage that has been done. Many act like it is the worst thing to be on thyroid meds - but my opinion is that it is even worse to be hypo and not on meds. Guest guest
Anything is possible. But again, NTH , if you need it, is a blessing. Guest guest
Your Free #'s are very low. Some people are able to use iodine only but most I've seen had labs that were not so off. It is possible to not have to be on thyroid hormone forever. If you do try only iodine, it would be prudent to monitor your labs often like at least once a month.
