Guest guest
Hello: On my bottle of Lugol’s it says - Usual dose 0.3 mL 3 times daily. = .9 mL. Could someone tell me what that would amount to? It also says POISON and there is a skull and crossed bones on the bottle. Thanks, Bonnie
Guest guest
Hi Karyn: Yes it is 5% and if your calculations are correct they’re advocating 18 drops per day? I find that astonishing, that they would recommend that much. On the label it says it is used for Thyrotoxicosis. Would that be a Hyperthyroid condition? Bonnie From: iodine [mailto:iodine ] On Behalf Of Karyn Curtis Sent: Wednesday, March 07, 2012 11:53 PM iodine Subject: Re: Lugol's Bonnie, I just posted this info when you said you didn't have a dropper. The metric system is standardized to have 20 drops / ml. So .3 ml would be 6 drops. .9 ml would be 18 drops. It is 5% Lugol's isn't it? At 6.25 mg / drop, 6 drops is 37.5 mg. .9 ml or 18 drops is 112.5 mg. It doesn't make sense to give a dosage AND say poison. We all know it isn't poison except if it's in an alcohol base - which isn't Lugol's. Lugol's is water based. Guest guest
I have been waiting for Mods to respond, but I have to since no one else is. This is not an " astonishing " dosage, but well within a good range of Lugols. Lugols is not poison. If you have that on the bottle, it is a tincture, mixed with alcohol and not meant to be ingested because of the alcohol, not because of the iodine. 112 mgs of lugols is just fine. The misinformation about iodine is rampant, but not on this list Jill On 3/8/2012 10:15 AM, Bonnie Cole wrote: > > Hi Karyn: > > Yes it is 5% and if your calculations are correct they’re advocating > 18 drops per day? Guest guest
I'm surprised they'd advise taking it at all if it's not lugols. I doubt if it's lugols because I've never seen that come with any warning at all. thanks for the clarification. Guest guest
Sometimes is depends on where iodine is purchased. It is available in Lugol’s form from science supply houses, because it is used in science experiments to indicate starches. But they are not selling it to take orally, even though it can be, so the bottles are often marked as “poisonâ€. It is a safety precaution for them, like Mc’s now having to label their coffee cups with a “Caution: hot†label. Donna in IL, moderator I'm surprised they'd advise taking it at all if it's not lugols. I doubt if it's lugols because I've never seen that come with any warning at all.thanks for the clarification.JillOn 3/8/2012 10:47 AM, Hidden Jewel wrote:>> Jill,>>> I surprised me that instructions on a bottle would suggest that much, > not that taking that much was astonishing.>> in Alaska>>>> On Thu, Mar 8, 2012 at 9:38 AM, JL <jlynch@... > <mailto:jlynch@...>> wrote:>> I have been waiting for Mods to respond, but I have to since no one> else is.
