I have heard and read stories about people painting their throats when they

have a sore throat and it helping them get better. I have also heard about

painting wrists with Iodine. The only Iodine I have in the house is the stuff

you can buy at a drugstore for $2. Wondering if it would be worth trying on my

the croupy cough and quite clearly a sore throat. Kinda desperate here for

No you cannot use that internally - it is only on the outside of the body. Sorry!

On the outside of the throat - yes that would be external. I am just not sure if I would do this to a 2 yr old without knowing what is in the iodine.

Ingredients - Providone-Iodine, 10%

Was only asking about painting her neck and wrist areas as I have read about

people doing this but wasn't sure what type of Iodine they were using.

Gathering it was Lugol's or Nascent? I don't know that I can purchase those

forms of Iodine anywhere locally but will definitely be finding out.

Curious, however, to know what kind of Iodine is used in this fashion?

They are hard to find locally.

You've got Betadine or a generic. You can use it to paint externally, but I

wouldn't do it longterm.

I have only just recovered from Bronchitis. What really helped was an old

fashioned trick the doc (an old retired gent doing some holiday cover, lovely

guy)told me about. He said to get a loosely woven cloth, soak it and wring it

out, but not too much, then place this over the the nose and mouth when your

resting and breathe through it. If the cloth is too wet or too closely woven you

can feel as if you are suffocating, but I found that a nice clean old dusting

cloth worked brilliantly for me.

His said its because you need COLD damp air, not steam to help soothe croupy

coughs. You could make it into a game with your daughter by turning her into a

nurse or a bandit with a mask on.

It really helped me, much better than any drugs I ahve ever had for Bronchitis

in the past.

Hi everyone,If I have the Lugol's 5% iodine solution, how many drops can be given to a child that is experiencing fever and stomach upset? I have one child that will be 2 years old next month, one child that is 5 years old and one that is 12 years old. They all have a fever and upset stomach.I appreciate any insight that can be provided regarding dosage for illness in children. Thanks!
