Guest guest
Thank you, Linn. I'll try as well. I'm taking Milk thistle 3 pill 175 mcg each. Guest guest
I have also wondered about milk thistle and its estrogenic effects. Along the same lines, I keep wondering about the cabbage family of foods. Some health proponents recommend 3 cups a day of them for their sulphur. Where do the moderators stand on whether or not to include these goitrogens in our diets? Avoid? Or moderation? Thanks,Kim From: Hutchings <barbarellahutch@...> "iodine " <iodine > Sent: Tuesday, February 28, 2012 11:38 PM Subject: Re: Re: More help with Iodoral needed I've read that the milk thistle is estrogenic is that true? Guest guest
Hi Kim, For me, broccoli, spinach, cauliflower, cabbage, brussel sprouts and other vegetables that have goitrogens have so many other valuable nutrients, vitamins and minerals, that I eat them daily. There are two I won't ever eat; peanuts because they are notoriously high in aftlatoxin the carcinogenic mold that can lead to liver cancer, and soy. For me, it's all about balance. Guest guest
Yes, the moderators of the Iodine list recommend balance, which means definitely we eat the range of the so-called goitrogens (I have my doubts about that list, frankly). Many people, however, are avoiding all soy, or avoiding all soy except fermented forms, or only organic... it varies what people choose with soy. But the cabbage-family veggies are highly nutritious and valuable. -- moderator On 29 Feb 2012 at 15:08, Kathleen Blake wrote: > > > > > Hi Kim, > For me, broccoli, spinach, cauliflower, cabbage, brussel sprouts and > other > vegetables that have goitrogens have so many other valuable nutrients, > vitamins and minerals, that I eat them daily. Guest guest
Thanks for the that link, Linn, it's great to get that key. For those who haven't seen the video yet, the key is, the fear of raw cruciferous vegetables is all based on one study that was done in 1983. The truth was revealed later when more research was done, but that truth did not gain traction in the health community the same way that the fear did. If one is iodine deficient, then raw cruicif. veggies could suppress iodine uptake. But if one is supplmenting with iodine and therefore not deficient, then there is no concern and there is no goitrogenic effect. There is a threshold. period. btw this vindicates my point of view, which is that when that " information " about goitrogenicity of raw cruciferous vegges came out I rejected it on the grounds of absurdity. However, it is dependent on the body having enough iodine. The body is SUPPOSED to have enough iodine, and it's only because of various issues having to do with a difficulty of finding this essential mineral, commodification of food production and demineralization of the soils, narrowing of the human diet, and the demonization of iodine that humans are so deficient in iodine on such a large scale. This goes back to the fact that when Lugol's was invented and then utilized by medicine, it had the potential to wipe out thyroid disease. Instead, because of a medical fraud, iodine was demonized instead. My mind goes to these larger arcs of history whenever we are confronted anew with the ways that Western medical focus on infinitesimal details and parts and neglect of the whole, or the holistic, has been and continues to be a problem for human health. In any case, those who are supplementing with iodine should have NO FEAR about raw cruciferous veggies, and in fact should revel in them as a great anticancer food. -- moderator On 1 Mar 2012 at 4:47, Linn wrote: > I agree with Kathleen, the benefits far out weigh any worries, > particularly for those supplementing with iodine I don't think it's an > issue. > > This was interesting: > > http://renegadehealth.com/blog/2009/08/07/the-real-effect-of-raw-cruci > ferous-vegetables-on-the-thyroid/ > > Linn > Moderator > > > > > > > > > > Hello again > everyone, thank you for your help on all my previous issues.
