Guest guest
Lori, were you taking the required supplements with your iodine? • Selenium (200mcg) or Brazil Nut • 400 mg magnesium glycinate (or citrate) (not magnesium oxide ) • Vitamin C - 3,000 mg • vitamins – 100mg B2, 500mg B3 (niacin NOT niacinamide) • Unrefined Celtic Sea Salt ½ tsp (NOT table salt !) • Ref) http://breastcancerchoices.org/iprotocol.html • http://home.comcast.net/~jocy1/junk/The%20Guide%20to%20Supplementing%20with%20Io\ dine.pdf Also, 4 drops of 2% is about 10mg. Why did you start at such a high dosage? I think it is advisable to start with 1 drop and sloowly titrate up, then pulse-dose or titrate down if detox symptoms appear. How many days after you started iodine did your swelling begin? At this point, I don't have any advice, maybe someone else can offer some ideas. Are you allergic to iodine? Try doing a skin patch test to see if you get a skin reaction. Grizz > > I haven't taken any iodine for nearly two months. I was suffering severe detox symptoms (only from 4 drops of 2% Lugol's per day for about two months) and swelling/weight gain (all in my upper body and stomach, that's it). I gained 16 pounds in two months, and in the two months following NOT taking a drop of iodine, I have yet to lose any of it and, premenstrually, I'm suffering the worst swelling in my breasts and stomach I've ever had. > > I am a personal trainer and I workout at an advanced level for over two hours a day, usually seven days a week. To gain this much weight in just my upper body (breasts and stomach) and not be able to lose it, is incredibly distressing. I've been concentrating on just healing my liver by taking magnesium, vit c, apple cider vinegar, and chlorophyll. I've removed nearly all sugar from my diet and have been generally eating very lightly throughout the day. Any attempts at a stronger liver detox have given me horrendous headaches and major swelling, so a mild and slow liver healing is all I can handle at the moment. > > How long does iodine stay in the body? Guest guest
Hi Lori I can't answer your iodine question but I just wanted to comment on your exercise. Most trainers would advice at least one day of rest between exercise routines. Most of the benefit actually appears on the days off. Sounds to me like you have inflammation from the stress you are putting your body under. If you are also reducing your food intake the situation is worse. Google 'cardio makes you fat' for details. There are some recent studies showing the downsides of exercise. I would have a week off to recover (eat plenty of nutritious food) and work with your trainer to design a more moderate programme. Even pro athletes have a day off!! Best wishes Jo > > I haven't taken any iodine for nearly two months. Guest guest
hello lori according to the endocrinologist that i see, it takes 3 months for the body to de-tox from the iodine [lugol's or iodoral]. but according to what i've seen on the web, plus my email from dr. abraham, it doesn't take more than a week for all the iodine to leave one's body. i see that you are taking vitamin c -- so that's good. dr. abraham recommends 6000 mg of vitamin c a day for de-toxing. good luck to you. please keep us all posted. annie! Guest guest
Hey Grizz, Yes, I was doing the companion supps. Also, I did not start out at 4 drops, only barely a drop. The immense weight gain and swelling came on after two months, where I reached 4 drops a day. I only suffered massive headaches after I attempted to do the salt loading protocol to help relieve the swelling. I did many patch tests, and I never had a skin reaction. They usually disappeared w/in hours. Thanks for your reply. Take care, Lori > > > > I haven't taken any iodine for nearly two months. Guest guest
Actually it's incorrect to specify niacin and not niacinimide. The product called ATP Co-Factors, by Optimox.com, has niacinimide. This has been the subject of much confusion so I'm not surprised to see it arise again. -- moderator On 28 Feb 2012 at 10:22, Marsh wrote: > > > > I certainly hope that Niacinamide is OK as I have 250 x 500mg tablets > here! > > > > > Re: How long does iodine generally stay in the > body? > > > > Lori, > were you taking the required supplements with your iodine? > o Selenium (200mcg) or Brazil Nut > o 400 mg magnesium glycinate (or citrate) (not magnesium oxide ) o > Vitamin C - 3,000 mg o vitamins - 100mg B2, 500mg B3 (niacin NOT > niacinamide) o Unrefined Celtic Sea Salt ½ tsp (NOT table salt !) > o Ref) http://breastcancerchoices.org/iprotocol.html o > http://home.comcast.net/~jocy1/junk/The%20Guide%20to%20Supplementing%2 > 0with%20Iodine. pdf Also, 4 drops of 2% is about 10mg. Guest guest
Hi, Jo, It's my job; I am a professional personal trainer and fitness class instructor. Also, I rarely do just cardio -- with my clients and my classes I instruct people to do interval training. I've been in the fitness industry since 1994, with a MA in physical education. Also, I eat lightly through the day, but I do not reduce food intake; I know from many years of experience that restriction does many horrible things to the body in the long run. I eat 40/30/30 every two hours, stopping completely by 7 pm. My main concern is with the upper body and stomach swelling that have yet to go away since stopping iodine and continue to plague me. Guest guest
Removal of iodine for 48 hours is enough to prepare for the loading test. So it is not very long that the iodine remains as it is something used up by the body quickly. Guest guest
Here's the thing. Lori, you describe attempts to do liver detox as making you very ill. This is evidence that what we are saying is completely true: weight gain after starting iodine is the result of the body not being able to detox the bromides that are released, and thus storing them in fat cells. If people get ill trying to detox the liver, that is evidence the liver really needs the detox. The list of things you're doing for your liver don't sound like any list I've seen that has resulted in detox. So, I'm not sure that what you're doing is adequate, gentle or not. But there are many things to do besides the oil/lemon liver/gallbladder flush. Far infrared saunas. Herb teas (Flor-essence and Traditional Medicinals Daily Detox are two). Lymph massage. Coffee enemas. TLC. Other people can list more items on the list. So at this point it's not about the iodine. It's about a strong need for detoxing the liver and a need to find a combination of things that is both tolerable and effective. The iodine is long gone and, let's be clear, replaced by bromides and other halides on the cell receptors. I understand that being in the fitness business and gaining weight is very worrisome. But I think the only way out is to really get serious about the liver detox and general detox issue. If you have a stoppage in the detox pathways, diet change is not going to be enough. You need some good, personalized advice about what to do, because what you're doing isn't working. with all best wishes, -- moderator On 28 Feb 2012 at 0:57, smileawhile74 wrote: > Hi, Jo, > > It's my job; I am a professional personal trainer and fitness class > instructor. Guest guest
Hey Lori,Just a thought ... it is away from topic but I have a friend who started experiencing upper body swelling, weight gain and fatigue, etc and it was because she started using a new makeup containing nano particles of titanium dioxide. It is really bad stuff. After a few months of feeling tired and unwell she ended up in hospital with severe tremors and not being able to speak and only when she traced it to the new make up, stopped using it and started detoxing did she start to get better. But again it is detoxing the liver and body that will get any rubbish out whatever it is. It may take time though.I just bring that up because some makeup companies have started using titanium dioxide in small enough particles to pass though the skin and it affects some people really badly. Guest guest
I didn’t see that your question had been answered; forgive the repetition if it has. Ancient Minerals Magnesium Oil is magnesium chloride. Magnesium Oxide (MgO) is not really designed to be a source of bio-available (available for the body to use) dietary magnesium. Only about 4% of its elemental magnesium is absorbed or about 12 mg out of a 500 mg tablet. In my opinion this would be a very poor choice for magnesium. Ancient Minerals provides approximately 560 mg of elemental magnesium per teaspoon.Be WellDr.L -----Original Message-----From: iodine [mailto:iodine ] On Behalf Of natalieSent: Monday, February 27, 2012 4:23 PMiodine Subject: Re: How long does iodine generally stay in the body? Guest guest
I could be wrong, but I suspect some of my pudginess is due to yeast overgrowth, and I am hoping that in time the iodine will help clear that! And it is not just bromides that the body quarantines in fat. There are all sorts of environmental nasties. I am told that over 70,000 new chemicals are produced every year! Re: Re: How long does iodine generally stay in the body? Here's the thing. Lori, you describe attempts to do liver detox as making you very ill. This is evidence that what we are saying is completely true: weight gain after starting iodine is the result of the body not being able to detox the bromides that are released, and thus storing them in fat cells. If people get ill trying to detox the liver, that is evidence the liver really needs the detox. The list of things you're doing for your liver don't sound like any list I've seen that has resulted in detox. So, I'm not sure that what you're doing is adequate, gentle or not.But there are many things to do besides the oil/lemon liver/gallbladder flush. Far infrared saunas. Herb teas (Flor-essence and Traditional Medicinals Daily Detox are two). Lymph massage. Coffee enemas. TLC. Other people can list more items on the list.So at this point it's not about the iodine. It's about a strong need for detoxing the liver and a need to find a combination of things that is both tolerable and effective. The iodine is long gone and, let's be clear, replaced by bromides and other halides on the cell receptors.I understand that being in the fitness business and gaining weight is very worrisome. But I think the only way out is to really get serious about the liver detox and general detox issue. If you have a stoppage in the detox pathways, diet change is not going to be enough. You need some good, personalized advice about what to do, because what you're doing isn't working.with all best wishes,--moderatorOn 28 Feb 2012 at 0:57, smileawhile74 wrote:> Hi, Jo,> > It's my job; I am a professional personal trainer and fitness class> instructor. Guest guest
Yes, that's right, . We are swimming in a chemical bath now, and our toxic burden is very high. You've reminded me of something. A lot of times people stop the iodine because of the weight gain they experienced, but meanwhile without adding iodine to the system, more and more bromides and other halides are locked onto cell receptors. Those bromides will only have to be knocked off again at some point. Plus iodine actually assists the body in detoxification. So I'm not at all sure that quitting iodine in response to unwanted detox symptoms is the most efficient course. -- moderator On 28 Feb 2012 at 14:41, Marsh wrote: > > > > I could be wrong, but I suspect some ofmy pudginess is due to yeast > overgrowth, and I am hoping that in time the iodine will help clear > that! > > And it is not just bromides that the body quarantines in fat. Guest guest
The best way to determine if you're absorbing a form of magnesium well is just to try it, and try other forms, and see what you get results from. Your body will tell you whether you're getting sufficient magnesium. (My body screams at me, making it very clear whether I'm getting enough.) If I were you I'd simply take tablets of magnesium citrate, glycinate, or malate. I have good experience with all three of those forms, and they're all affordable.
