Guest guest
LOL, you welcome, Margie. Trick here is to teach hubby to "buzz up" his own! No doubt teaching him to CLEAN up his own will be the harder part! From: Margaret <fenneyml@...>Subject: Re: Newbie with questions Date: Monday, January 31, 2011, 7:14 AM , Thanks for the advice! I like the mason jar idea and you're also teaching me the slang. Guess I'll be telling dh that "I'll be "buzzing up" some soup in a few minutes". Margie > > Hello, Margie-welcome to the group! I use tapioca gel (make your own by cooking a little tapioca pearl just covered with water until translucent, then buzz up in Vitamix) flax seed, or chia seeds (soak first) as thickeners. You can also use tapioca or corn starch for soups, but I find the gels easier to manage, since they need no further cooking. Many juices and smoothies will not keep well-once the cell wall of the fruits and veggies is broken down, they start to deteriorate quickly, so making ahead of time is not always so good, depending on what you are making. Best bet would be to put the ingredients in a mason jar and keep in the fridge, teach hubby how to buzz them up in the morning. I know some one here ( I am sure our will jump in, I am sure) DO make some juices that will keep.  I often keep jars of stuff at the ready for my daughter to buzz up when she is ready for them. The enzyme activity of some fruits and veggies makes > them break down very quickly once juiced or pureed. > > >
Guest guest
Juices with citrus fruits in them tend to taste bitter after 1/2 hour or so. Everything else can be stored. I wouldn't store a smoothie for more than 48 hours. I do a juice/smoothie before I go to bed each night so I can drink them during the next day. I load my VM up with 13 or so fruits and veg with some flax seed and a little water blend then pour into bottles I got from GNC with the metal ball for mixing things like protein powder. Put them in the fridge overnight then take them to work in the morning and put them in the fridge and drink thought the day. I have notice they will change color the next day if I do not finish them in about 24 hours. It does not seem to change the taste. So I would recommend not making more than you can consume quickly. Guest guest
Not if they're pressed without grinding! I make the best citrus juices ever with my Norwalk just by pressing whole, peeled fruit and they hold for a week in filled Mason jars. No reason why you couldn't do the same with a homemade press. Guest guest
I should have said Vitamix "juices" which is what she called them, but I know that the Vitamix does not produce a true "juice". Guest guest
And I should have read more carefully! But for those who might now be inspired to build a press, it's good to know. You can't imagine how much different the taste is from using a citrus juicer. Guest guest
Hi, I recently joined this group because I have wanted to start taking iodine for my hair loss, dry skin and low body temp of 97. I have Lyme disease and am quite sure I have high levels of bromide as my detox pathways are not working well. I have done chelation therapy for heavy metals. My question is this; I am planning on getting the necessary lab work done before I start on iodine supplementation. I currently take Modifilan (brown seaweed extract and Nature-thyroid 1/2grain 32.5 mg). Should I continue on these supplements or stop before doing the lab work. Thank you for your help! I am looking forward to learning more about iodine and health from your group. Sarina
Guest guest
Hi Sarina, Like you, I am going to do the iodine because of hair loss, low body temp, and I am hypothyroid. I took 1/2 tab of the iodoral for 3 days with the supplements, excluding the salt because it dehydrated me and caused pain in my bladder. Maybe I could come back with 1/4 t of it instead of the 1/2 t. Anyway, I stopped after 3 days due to constipation, which I already have problem with due to the hypothyroidism and headaches with body aches. I decided to try the ashwagandha to help with the detox pathways. I started that today. I will let all know how that works.Betty Hi, I recently joined this group because I have wanted to start taking iodine for my hair loss, dry skin and low body temp of 97. Guest guest
Sarina, I started Iodoral for hair loss also, plus I figured I needed it. I had taken all companion supplements including salt for about a year before I started iodine, and I can tell you that after 4 years of hair loss I am seeing about an inch of baby hair sticking up all over my head. I am thrilled!! However I am having problems with detox also. Even at 1/2 iodoral I had bladder spasms. I was taking salt not counting what I put on my food long before I started the iodine and had no bladder problems. I think that may be part of the detox...I had to stop also as I felt very hypo feeling and achey on the iodine. I am not giving up. I started back today, I cut 1/2 of a 1/2 into and will try that for a while, I think I will get lugols so I can go slower. I must have some very plugged detox pathways. I got to 1 pill and it was like someone was sedating me about 4 hours after taking it. I will say that after trying everything on the market to grow hair I was amazed at what even that small amount did for making my hair grow...
