Guest guest
> >Another suggestion is to take pictures of yourself, as you probably did when you first started (your " before " pics). Sometimes you change slowly and can't really see the changes in the mirror, but if you compare pictures from before and now, side by side, you may notice some changes between the two. I wasn't positive I was changing until my 4 week pictures came back - it was so noticeable in only 28 days!!! Take those pictures in the same suit, same pose, same background. I think you'll notice it then! Sara
Guest guest
Hi.When I started BFL I noticed results in 4-5 weeks and then it seem to continue in that fashion...every 4 weeks or so I noticed a change. A suggestion about the shakes...I won't lie and say I like Myoplex...I use something else...but what helps mega in either one is mixing it with just eight ounces of water and some ice and putting a little fat free whip topping on it. I use to have two shakes of lite a day now I use one package of regular and use skim milk for extra protein and calories and divide it in two...this helped with the expense (milk is cheaper) AND the calories were about the same. Definately use less water or milk to get it down quick and it taste good. Hope this helped.

Hey, that sounds great! Two things: what other type of shake do you use, and what " bad stuff " might be lurking in that whipped topping (e.g., partially hydrogenated oil)? Thanks a ton, Andy
Guest guest
I can concur with Rosemary on the Optimum products. They sell one hell of a protein (100% Whey) at $23.99 for 5#!! I buy mine at Natural High (nathigh.com) and they will match any price and provide very good customer service and quick delivery. They sell the protein for $28.99 but tell them Vitamin Planet has it for $23.99 (which they do) and they will match it. I like Optimums Pro Complex Whey protein drinks as well for post workout. Taste great, 37 grams of whey isolate, zero carbs. Mike Pallante Youngstown, Ohio USA Godspeed to Dale Earnhardt! Guest guest
Hi, there I have 2 questions: 1. What is the value of taking Tribulus terrestris for a female athlete( dangers, precautions, mechanism of action) 2. What are new trends in warm up exercises, I heard that static stretching is not a valid option nowadays Thanks Tom
Guest guest
I recommend creatine, multivitamins, extra vitamin c and udo's oil. And mass quantities of really cold water, which acts as a thermogenic. Guest guest
It is possible to do it without supplements. I use the shakes for pure convenience. I don't feel as though I would stick with it if I had to fix 6 meals per day. I don't think what is in the shake gives me anything whole foods can't - as a matter of fact whole foods would be a better option. Good luck! Sara Is it possible to this without the supplements. Not that I'm against it totally but I never used any before and I'm not really sure about what to take. I'm not sure which of the meal replacement shakes to take. I just started BFL tuesday and want to do as much right as I can. Any suggestions?
Guest guest
The book recommends starting with at most Myoplex Lite, Myoplex or Myoplex Deluxe depending on size and goals. These are meal replacements and each count as one of your six daily meals. And of course multivitamins and EFA's (essential fatty acids) such as Udo's Choice Oil. If you eat a lot of salmon and tuna and such you can reduce the supplements of EFA's. The most widely used EAS supplement for fat loss goals is probably BetaGen (which contains creatine monohydrate that supports replenishment of ATP in the muscles and thus allows you to lift more weight and grow muscles faster, and HMB which is used to suppress protein breakdown) and then there are a host of thermogenics that boost the metabolism, such as Phen Free or many effedra/caffeine style thermogenics, such as Beta Lean. Then there are Glutamine supplements such as Cyto Vol which are called cell volumizers, which are intended to create an environment that supports muscle growth. Protein powder is merely a concentrated source of high quality protein that can be combined with a carb to create a meal, or combined with foods when you need to boost the protein content. Just some thoughts. Kit
Guest guest
The more I read/learn about supplements, the more confused I get. But here's my routine: a high potency multi-vitamin and BetaGen with breakfast everyday, BetaLean before my midmorning and midafternoon meals Mon-Fri, L-glutamine only if I start feeling a particularly rough (good?) weight workout by evening. Guest guest
Thank you Bob for your most interesting post. And I appreciate the responsable manner in which you preface your personal usage. It's only fair to mention more or less what I take. Actually I take many of the same products in different dosages. Am doing moderate CRON, low GI carbs etc. no junk food at all, no processed foods at all. Fish 4 times a week, many different vegetables and cruciferous ones everyday. I take chinese herb tonic that I make in a steamer containing fresh ginseng, poria cocos, red dates, licorice, schizandra, and cinnamon bark. It tastes heavenly! Then carnosine (1 gr) and another gr during the day on empty stomach. NADH as I read somewhere that it somewhat mimics CR (I can dig that out if you wish) then a bkfst of yoghurt ,2 tblsp mixed grains, sesame seeds, walnuts and blueberries. LEF mix, C,E,Selenium,B100, DHEA 25, Preg. 15, folic acid, B12, aminoguanidine (300mgs) Vivida protein for skin, chrom. pic., NAC, niacinamide. Every other day 1mg Seligine. Calcium cit. boron, vit D, mg, K. Lunch is usually fish, or egg white omelet with veggies, or cottage cheese. More LEF mix and then BAC powders- broccoli sprouts, bilberry, lutein, lycopene, grape seed, curcumin, and axatanthin (sp). Dinner is chicken, veggies, or tomato soup or salads. Exercise 4 times a week, lift weights. I would guess that most people on the list have similiar regimes. Otherwise how would all those companies stay in business? thanks again and best wishes! Guest guest
You will notice that there will be many suggestions to seek a qualified HP(homeopath) for any disturbances. This sounds serious enough not to guess at. I am not an expert on HP but I do believe it is the best " medical " care available. I have used it on several occassions and sometimes it has helped and the times it hasn't,well, I probably need a follow up visit as ALL medical care is guesswork and we probably need to guess a better remedy! Guest guest
It may be cheaper to order directly from someplace like www.netrition.com check out their prices. I have fantastic workouts if I do a Myoplex lite about 30 minutes prior to a weightlifting workout, nothing before any cardio. It appears to help me get a few reps in because of the nutrients on board. If I do a preworkout shake I won't do a postworkout shake too. Maybe only a corner of a Luna Bar to help transport my creatine dose also taken postworkout. Usually they are recommended for postworkout to replace what was depleted and to assist in muscle building and recovery. They are just as good for using for convenience instead of the local Pizza takeout or vending machines. Or any other time you might be caught without food prepared. I carry either a shake envelope or a bar in my purse at all times like some women carry lipstick. It has made lots of difference as far as success or failure. Welcome, and I wish you the best with BFL. Let us know how you progress. Stasia
Guest guest
Hi Jen - just wanted to welcome you ... I'm not going to tell you anything about supplements because I don't take them but there are some very knowledgeable women on here who will give you the info you need. Sounds like you are on track with your workouts ... lots of people run for their cardio ...How would you hit your 10's jumping rope? Not sure about that. Anyway, just wanted to wish you and your husband good luck on your challenge! Rita Supplements I've been a member of this group for a couple of days and have enjoyed reading through the strings of messages. You girls are so inspiring and you make me laugh -- laughter is important through this, isn't it??!! Anyway, I'm having a problem with supplements. I don't know ANYTHING about them and was hoping some of you ladies would tell me what you take that seems to help -- and what exactly is some of this stuff? I was reading an old chat transcript on the BFL website the other day -- one of the former champions was saying that she used BetaGen, BetaLean HP, Methoxy Factor HP, Simply Protein, and RiboForce HP. I think there was one other thing too, but it escapes me at the moment. What exactly do all these things do, and are they " necessary " ? I mean, I trust Bill , but he wants to sell products too, right? I just don't want to spend $40 here and $70 there and $100 on this and that -- for things that really are more of a placebo than anything else. I do know that the BetaLean is an ephedrine-based fat burner, right? Well, I used to take Metabolife back when it came out - and the instructions said NOTHING about taking it 5 days on, 2 days off -- 12 weeks on - 2 weeks off -- nothing like that! So, I wonder if I built up an immunity to ephendrine? I wonder if it will even work for me now! It's been about 2 years since I took the Metabolife. Can you rebuild your immunity to something once you lose it? Thanks for any help you can give. My husband and I are competing in this challenge and I want to make sure I get all the information I can get about the supplements. Oh -- and we have a Bowflex at home too. It makes a great home gym! We live an hour from Baton Rouge -- so that's an hour drive in and home for both of us -- and with 2 kids -- it's just not conveient to join a gym. The Bowflex has some limitations when it comes to following the BFL workouts -- Bill suggests the 12, 10, 8, 6 reps -- adding weight as you go -- well it's not that easy to add weight with a Bowflex ... so if any of you ladies have a Bowflex you work out with too -- and you can provide some advice, that'd be nice. We're walking/jogging for our cardio, but I'm thinking about picking up some aerobics tapes ... or maybe finding my jump rope to add to the variety. Thanks for all the inspirational words you girls have already given me -- I just LOVE the friendly group you have here! Jen

Guest guest
> Sounds like you are on track with your workouts ... lots of people run > for their cardio ...How would you hit your 10's jumping rope? It's hard to do the 20-minute cardio solution with jumprope, but it's pretty easy to do intervals. If you still have problems just jumpingrope, then your intervals might be: - March in place, keeping knees high - Jumprope ....and repeat (remember that your intervals are based on " go like hell " then " active recovery " . Like running like an axe murderer is chasing you for a full 60-seconds, then jogging and recovering your breath for 1-2 minutes.) If you can already jumprope pretty well, then your intervals might be: - Jumprope - Something fancy " Fancy " in this case means the fun stuff. Alternate legs. Do side-to-side ski-jumps. Alternate legs and have high knees. Or high heels. If you're really good, try doing the cross-your-arms and jump-through every 3-4 rotations (this is GREAT!). One foot jumps. Double turn. Squaredance, if you can, just MOVE and move FAST! It's a stupendous pylometric workout. I highly recommend! 20 minutes will feel like an eternity! -- gnat! Guest guest
Well, there is a LOT of confusion out there about supplements. If you call EAS, they will ship you their FREE supplement guide. It tells you nearly everything you want to know about nearly every supplement that exists. (and, it does nto just tout the benefits of EAS stuff!). That said........ Many will argure that you do nto NEED supplements. Well, they are right. However, there are some supplements that will HELP YOU get to where you are goign faster and/or stronger. In general, you want to stick with the stuff that has been *tried and true* - and avoid the *new* type supplements (as you will nto knwo the long term effects of this. Let someone else be the guinea pig!) Personally, I just take BetaGen and Cyto_Vol (glutamine). I also use MRP's such as Myoplex, Met-RX, and whey protein powder. (but I consider that more of a food than a supplement.) I had great results on C1, 2 and 3! Hope this helps. Jill > > > Anyway, I'm having a problem with supplements. Guest guest
It's probably 80-90% diet. So, I agree with the " no matter how hard and long you exercise " statement. It's all about your diet. Thermogenics only cause you to burn an extra 150-300 cals a day by raising your metabolism. If you train hard and eat clean, you can easily make up that difference with no pills. There have been lots of great transformations here without supplements. Supplements Hi All, I have been going to CalFit since July 2002. Lots of girls are loosing weight & shaping up like crazy before my very eyes. Just the other day, one of them told me that no matter how hard and long I exercise, I am not going to see results as much as them coz they take supplements such as Fat Burners, Metabolism Increase Pills and so forth. Care to share some of your thoughts? Luv, Geri
