Guest guest
My mother became allergic to shellfish in her forties, and she insists that the reason behind her allergy to shellfish is due to an allergy to iodine, so says her doctor. I pointed out that every cell in her body contains iodine and she has no allergic reaction to other foods rich in iodine like yogurt and milk. She also eats all other fish types without an allergic reaction. I know, for certain, that she's allergic to shellfish, requiring immediate care should she ingest any, but could iodine really be at fault? If someome could point me to a good website on this, I'd appreciate it. When I Googled, I found mainly anti-iodine articles. NY NY
Guest guest
I am allergic to shellfish and I was told by stupid doctors to avoid iodine - because I had a reaction to a contrast dye scan. But now I know that the issue with the scan was the contrast dye and I have also learned that an allergy to shellfish is to the protein in the shellfish and not the iodine. Here are some reference: http://www.foodallergy.org/page/shellfish-allergy http://www.allergicchild.com/shellfish_allergy.htm http://www.sdirad.com/health-professional-information/iodine-allergy-myth.php Buist, ND HC Shellfish allergies and iodine My mother became allergic to shellfish in her forties, and she insists that the reason behind her allergy to shellfish is due to an allergy to iodine, so says her doctor. Guest guest
I am also allergic too shellfish and have an epi pen. Iodine is fine. As says its false information. Its not the iodine but the muscle protein in the shellfish flesh. It is totally unrelated. > > I am allergic to shellfish and I was told by stupid doctors to avoid iodine - because I had a reaction to a contrast dye scan. Guest guest
Hmmm - All my life I have been allergic to fish. My father used to catch them and I had to go on the boat while he did. Used to make me sick and thro up just the smell, sight, thought !My older brother was exactly as me. Younger brother could eat some fish if in batter and deep fried.I could not even cook fish for my husband when he caught trout from the rivers. I could not touch it or pick it up and cover it in herbs and wrap in foil and put in oven even !However strangely I can and do eat prawns/shrimps by the bucket full. Lobster is OK too. Oysters cooked.Jess
Guest guest
i agree. that doctor at the tahoma clinic has an excellent article that explains the difference between the iodine found in shellfish and the iodine found in iodoral. all the female members of my family, including myself, are allergic to shellfish. all of us also have or had thyroid disease. i take iodoral daily, for almost a year now.
