Steve,

Have you taken ASI test? I wondered if your naturopath advised you ACE and

Ashwaganda according to your ASI test results. What is the dosage

recommendation of your naturopath and how often it should be taken? I have

also been thinking of trying it but could not give a decision. From what I

have read I would think it might be helpful for second stage(what I call)

patients who have high cortisol. It may regulate the high cortisol output

and immune system problems. It also is anti-inflammatory, antitumor,

antioxidant as your article says.I am not sure if it can be helpful to third

stage patients with low cortisol output (extreme exhaustion) and less or no

immune system problems. Could you please give me some info on your stage?

Also I would be glad to hear of your experiences with it if you ever decide

to try it.

Thanks.

Nil

Ashwagandha

| Hello Group,

| My naturopath has suggested that I use the herb, Ashwagandha.

| It sounds fairly good from what I have read, and my naturopath

| has been right so far in recommending a sublingual ACE from Biomax

| as well as a wild yam product which is helping my DHEA & testosterone.

| I have risen from 15% functionality to 25% functionality, which certainly

| helps

| when I visit my mother in a nursing home in Colorado (I'm in California).

| I was wondering if any of you have used this herb successfully.

| Anyway, here is an article on the herb below my signature.

| OBJECTIVE: The objective of this paper is to review the literature

regarding

| Withania somnifera (ashwagandha, WS) a commonly used herb in Ayurvedic

| medicine. Specifically, the literature was reviewed for articles

pertaining

| to chemical properties, therapeutic benefits, and toxicity. DESIGN: This

| review is in a narrative format and consists of all publications relevant

to

| ashwagandha that were identified by the authors through a systematic

search

| of major computerized medical databases; no statistical pooling of results

| or evaluation of the quality of the studies was performed due to the

widely

| different methods employed by each study. RESULTS: Studies indicate

| ashwagandha possesses anti-inflammatory, antitumor, antistress,

antioxidant,

| immunomodulatory, hemopoietic, and rejuvenating properties. It also

appears

| to exert a positive influence on the endocrine, cardiopulmonary, and

central

| nervous systems. The mechanisms of action for these properties are not

fully

| understood. Toxicity studies reveal that ashwagandha appears to be a safe

| compound. CONCLUSION: Preliminary studies have found various constituents

of

| ashwagandha exhibit a variety of therapeutic effects with little or no

| associated toxicity. These results are very encouraging and indicate this

| herb should be studied more extensively to confirm these results and

reveal

| other potential therapeutic effects. Clinical trials using ashwagandha for

a

| variety of conditions should also be conducted.

Barry,

Why are you taking ashwagandha? I foind this excellent report on it.

http://www.lef.org/magazine/mag2006/jun2006_report_ashwa_01.htm

What was your iodine dosage? What were you trying to increase it to?

Why the question on ashwagandha? What are your symptoms when you increase your

iodine dosage? It is impossible to answer your question with so little

information.

I did not start feeling really good until I started ashwagandha.

Previously I had tried rhodiola, licorice...

I also take 7-keto the safer form of dhea, and

I highly recommend ashwagandha!

Ashwaghanda should help your adrenals, but it depends upon how badly fatigued

your adrenals are and ashwaghanda may not be enough. I used it and it helped me

feel better, but it was not enough for me especially when I tried to increase my

thyroid meds. I have had my sisters use it and they have felt better, but they

are not diagnosed with hypothyroidism. You might also want to consider

liposomal vit C (which is better absorbed than regular Vit C) and B5 as they

help adrenals along with sea salt.

Hi, Barry:

You don't want to take it at night as it can stimulate you and may disrupt your

sleep. I used organic India brand of ashwaghanda and the bottle says to take

before meals in the morning and afternoon. You can take 1-2 capsules each time

depending upon how the dosage makes you feel. I used this brand in particular

because it is organic and the price is reasonable. They often have sales as

well. However, you have to find what works for you.
