Guest guest
Hi. I am very new here. Please forgive me for asking such simple questions, but I recently discovered that my husband & I are having significant thyroid issues and I am trying so hard to learn fast... but I have 6 kids (including a 7 mo old baby) and half of them have nagging health issues too, so I am nose deep in a massive learning curve for all of us! I plan to study the amazing info in your files this weekend (I've already looked over them and read iodine4health's website a lot, but need to spend more time 'studying' this weekend.) SO in the interim, could you answer a few pressign questions for me? 1) is NTH " Natural Thyroid " ? What is it exactly & where do I get it? I was planning to order Standard Process's Thyrotrophin this weekend & have him take 1 TID. (He started Iodorol a week ago and is up to 2 a day with no negative affects.... just way more energy and improved ability to think; YAY. But, I am scared to increase above that without lab tests, just in case. He is also on the selenium, salt, magnesium... have to buy the vit c this weekend too) 2) I am still exclusively breastfeeding my 7 mo old, so I've not started on the Iodosol yet... but I see that 1 tab/12.5 mg would be okay. I am assuming the recommended amounts of the supporting supplements are ok? 3) Also, I have known I've stuggled w/ my thyroid the last few years, but no labs. I've been painting & taking kelp tablets (tho I now know these are not near what I need!)...and w/ the last few babies, have taken SP's Symplex F off & on for nursing (on it now) which does have the bovine tyroid extract, just not as much--maybe a third as much. (It also has bovine ovary, adrenal & pituitary extracts) ok. so my question here: I saw an article by a Dr. Howenstine that referred to research indicating that there is an increased incidence of breast cancer in patients on synthetic or natural thyroid, and that this incidence of breast cancer increases relative to the time spent on the supplemented thyroid. Iodine supposedly decreases, & eventually eliminates, the need for thyroid-- thus lowering the incidence of breast cancer in these individuals. Is this true??? And if it is, would SP classify as natural thyroid, such that there would be increased risk in taking it if you you do not get your iodine levels up first? That concerns me w/ my past supplementing and w/ my future supplementing decisions. 4) Lastly: Who should I/we see for this? Honestly, our finances are very tight. We are already seeing a DC/kinesiologist for our daughter's persistent health issues and it is almost all we can do. But, we did get a tax refund this year, & if we budget it right, maybe we could do something... just cna't afford to waste tiem & money going to the wrong places doing the wrong things. This DC (also a diplomat in kinesiology) does allergy testing and saliva testing, etc adn says he has dealt w/ thyroid in patients a lot. He seems very knowledgable. He sends to a lab in washington I believe. Would seeing him be our best bet?? We need " the most bang for our buck " so to speak... (and fyi, I do have other musculoskeletal issues as well; also we are in our mid 40s & starting into that season of age related issues... new territory for us, but we can certainly feel the decline the last few years in both of us!) Thank you so much; any other direction is welcome... Michele > > Hi Barry, > As you most likely know, by these numbers, you are VERY hypothyroid. There is a common misconception that taking NTH is a failure, but actually it is exactly what your body needs! The main idea is for us to get healthy and NTH is a wonderful material; I take it myself and I always say, God Bless the Pigs! > Kind regards, > Kathleen > moderator > *gentle bump* will iodine alone do the trick > > > > these are my latest thyroid numbers: > TSH 2.63 (0.35-5.5) > Free T3 2.46 (2.3-4.2) > Free T4 0.6 (0.8-1.7) > > Is it possible that taking iodine alone may get my thyroid > numbers back up, or do i also need to take dessicated thyroid? i would much rather heal my body by adding the ingredients that it needs, than taking additional hormones. has anyone had their thyroid numbers come back to normal by using iodine alone? i am only up to 1/2 drop of lugols a day (i am very sensitive and have been detoxing like mad), but the change in my energy, brain fog, and mood has been dramatic. i am so looking forward to getting to higher levels. thanks, barry >
Guest guest
Hi ,I cannot comment on most of your questions, but just wanted to say that we use Standard Process Thytrophin as a supplement here. I also am on Armour Thyroid as an over the counter supplement is not enough for me. The Thytrophin does not have the T4 as that is not allowed by law. ok. so my question here: I saw an article by a Dr. I have never heard this before but would be interested to read more about it. But a question that came to mind is whether it is the thyroid medication that is causing the increased breast cancer or if it is the low levels of iodine that are so prevalent in thyroid patients. That is the hard thing about studies. There are so many variables that sometimes the right conclusions do not get made. One nice thing about the Iodine protocol is that it is fairly inexpensive. For one person to be using 25mg/day of Lugol's 2%, it costs $16/month. If he/she uses Iodoral instead, it costs $25/month. Of course, the higher the dosage the more the cost. But with the Lugol's the cost is still minimal. in Alaska
