I am not sleeping either. I have been taking Iodine for a few months but I didn't really notice the lack of sleep at first, it has been getting worse and worse till I am also lucky to get 3 hours and spend most of the night *trying* to sleep and not getting much. I am tired during the day, though, very little energy. But if I don't take the iodine that is worse so I find myself in a bit of a catch 22. Going to try and get some 5-HTP and/or some melatonin to hopefully help. Used to be Magnesium did it but even that is failing me now.

Hi Group,I hope someone can help me. I had been on 4 drops of Lugols 2% in the morning for approximately one month, I am taking all the supporting supplements. I decided it was time to increase my dose by one more drop. First night I could not sleep, I got maybe 3 hrs of sleep and did not get sleepy at all in the daytime. It didn't dawn on me that it could be the iodine I am still not sure. Yesterday I had the 5 drops and again I only slept for 3 hours, and did not feel sleepy during the day. Any one experienced this? my adrenal health is not good, I recently started on adrenal cortex n do the extra salt.  I am actually thinking that, that might be whats keeping me awake.I have tried damiana tea which used to get me really drowsy but now it wont do a thing.  Today I have tried only 4 drops of Lugol's and see how it goes, but I can only sleep till 2am and maybe I will sleep a bit after 6.  Do you have any suggestions?

when you wake at 2 ,it is probably liver problem.look at the chinese organ clock,with iodine comes detox and you might need to help your liver

I had trouble

sleeping when I got close to 50 years of age and it was low hormones..

Yes - although a 'nanny nap' or two get me through the day.

Dear Joanna,Your messages caught my eye because like you I have terrible insomnia. I wake up about 1:30am despite doing the iodine, all supplements and salt loading. I'm not exhausted but feeling a bit "drunk" from so little sleep. If you find anything else that helps stay asleep, please post it. I'm taking Ashwaganda now and trying some valerian supplements. Dear Angie,Thank you for the suggestion. I did test my hormones and was told progesterone was normal, estrogen slightly low. I'm on progesterone pill to control heavy periods. One hour before

bed 2 mg. Melatonin THEN just getting into bed Valerian drops according to the

bottle.

I read for ½ hour

and then BANG – I’m gone. 

After doing

some s-l-o-w deep breathing of course since that shifts your body from

Sympathetic to Parasympathetic.

I forgot to

mention that the deep breathing is important.

mention that I also apply 10 mg of Progesterone cream 2 hours before bed and in

the mornings I apply a tiny bit of DHEA for my Adrenals. I actually think your

Adrenals are what is waking you up.

Dr. Brownstein

says that Melatonin helps to re-set your sleep wake cycle.

In addition, I would suggest magnesium before bed along with 5-HTP and zinc

picolinate which can all help with sleep. It was not until I

was on hydrocortisone and enough thyroid meds that my sleep finally improved on

a consistent basis(knock on wood).
