Guest guest
Hi Lynne, Well, if we go to the ER, then we head to " Stillwater Medical Center " :-). We had previously done our hematology with St. Francis in Tulsa(their PICU is super-duper and the head doctor there Barton was super sharp AND personable), but are now doing our hematology at Oklahoma Children's Hospital in OKC. The hems in Tulsa were more " oncology " whereas in OKC they deal with blood diseases. That is where OU's Med. School is located. Our doctor there is Dr. Joan Parkhurst---she is really great and is the one that helped us get down to the bottom of the problem. Our immuno is Dr. Wesley Burks at Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock. We have been there only once(our diagnosis is new) and are to go back for our second infusion at the end of Sept. Dallas was definitely on the list of choices for us. Given broader considerations, Little Rock seemed the best place to start. OK, now what is the " D " magazine??:-) --- Bejenski@... wrote: > bless8: > I used to live in Ardmore!! What hospital do you > guys go to? > We use Medical City in Dallas. Guest guest
Welcome to the group . It is so neat that you are a sibling and joining the discussion. Just for the record, as a child my son (age 9, ds) used to fall asleep in the car all the time. Now he almost never does, unless it is late at night or a really long car ride. Glad to have you as part of the group! R. curious Hi, My name is and I have a 22 year old brother with Down Syndrome. I joined this list a while ago, but have never posted and often don't get a chance to read the messages. I am in college which keeps me pretty busy. I was curious about people with DS and falling asleep in the car. My brother does a lot, like 2 minutes into the trip. I was reading A Special Kind of Hero about Burke and it said that he falls asleep in the car really fast too. I was reading another book too...maybe Expecting Adam, but I'm not sure...and it said their son with DS fell asleep in the car too. I guess I always just thought it was a quirk of ' but was wondering if maybe it is a wider trend? for no other reason than I thought it was interesting... Guest guest
How I wish Lyndara would fall asleep in the car. She rarely falls asleep in the car. The only time she sleeps in the car is if we are traveling at night and I have given her benadryl to help start the process. Guest guest
I guess I would trust the instinct of your OB/GYN. What would it hurt to ask for another workup? If you'd feel better about it, have your OB/GYN write a letter of request to your Pulmo/Immuno for it. Then it would be from one concerned professional to another and you wouldn't get stuck in the middle feeling like a nut case. From what you've said, there is obviously something not right. I hope you can get to the bottom of it -- and quickly! -Rogena (Mom to 4 boys, including Cole -Partial Selective IgA Def, GERD, possible Celiac) > > so, again with the beating an idea to death with a stick. > ok, so 3 of my 4 kids have CVID. Guest guest
Valarie, Definitely test the post-vaccine antibodies. You probably already know this, but a person can have completely normal numbers of immunoglobulins, but if they aren't making or holding antibodies then it doesn't really matter. Also, did they check B, T and NK cells, including function? I'm not sure what else to suggest, but your immune function does sound questionable! Take care, Mom to Conner (12, possible combined immune deficiency, mild CP, partial seizures, asthma, GERD, Hashimoto's disease and resolved adrenal insufficiency), Hayden (12, unknown PID, PDD-NOS, IBS and moderate hearing loss/aided), Evan (12, unknown PID, asthma and mild hearing loss/unaided), and Kelsey - (10, unknown PID, asthma) Please visit us at www.caringbridge.org/in/connersmith
Guest guest
Valarie: Did they check t-cells? Response to vaccines? You should not be getting yeast infections that often and certainly should NOT be getting thrush. That's NOT normal. In fact, on the yeast infection med package, it even says if you have yeast infections more than X amount of times you need to get your immune system checked out. The other guy has missed something. DO IT!! You have to check it further. If only for the yeast infections... aaaagggghhhh those are unbearable!!!!!!!!!!!! So it's like a nuclear bomb going off down there, like taking a blowtorch to you but then it's not long-lasting enough to fully cure it. Seems like if you use not-the-right-thing right there at the start, you end up having to go with the full-on prescription stuff, the OTC can't handle the partially-treated problem. You probably already know that (with your wealth of experience, you poor woman!), but I thought I'd throw it in just in case you didn't... my theory is that ANYTHING that helps us girls suffer less with those infections -- I'm all for it! I previously read up on all sorts of home remedies: sitz baths with acidophilus, with yogurt, with tea tree oil (zowie! that's an eye opener --- what, they didn't have pure isopropyl alcohol????), but always ended up back with the real meds. Glad the kids' doc is so observant!
