You need to take probiotics that contain more than just the one strain.

There is a great book called Digestive Wellness by Lipski (last name) it

explains it a lot better. You can also take FOS and VIt C to help rebuild

the intestinal flora and the good bacteria in your body along with other

natural cultured foods. You need to be sure they are natural cultures-you

can get natural soy sauce and sauerkraut at the health food store. If you

go to www.shwachmandiamondamerica.org

<http://www.shwachmandiamondamerica.org/> and click on " community " then on

digestive issues, I have an excerpt there from the digestive wellness

book... you might find it interesting.

a day........I eat yogurt constantly............I have done both oral

diflucan and nystatin, and the creams for the " other " variety.....it

Valarie -

If you have any immune studies/bloodwork for your infections done, you may

want to consider a T-cell stimulation study for yeast/candida. If you only look

at immunoglobin levels/function you may miss something. My daughter is CVID and

her T-cells do not mount a response to yeast. She used to get relapsing

" thrush " until IVIG. NOTHING worked until IVIG.

Sorry I can't be of more help. It was either or Pattie that suggested a

" broad spectrum " probiotic. If you go this route, consider a medical grade

probiotic like VSL. It is super potent and probably one of the best out there.

Valarie,

Do they look like spider veins? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telangiectasia

If so, you will want to tell the specialists -- particularly the immuno/hemo/ID.

I would not expect the nurse to know. Telangiectasia is often benign but, given

your family's history of immune dysregulation, the doc need to know. I believe

there is immune/disease associated telangiectasia.

Our PIDDers also get immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) where you get

bleeding or easy brusing (purpura) or (petechiae).

I encourage you to show/tell the doc. Use your digital cam if necessary. Also,

if you ever take him to an eye doc, have them check his eyes carefully.

my son who is now 13 has been wearing his jackets cold/hotter then you know what

for years. I don't know how he does it. I sweat looking at him and he doesn't

have DS. I asked why he does it and he just does the shrug the shoulders thing!

Hi All,

Just curious, if anyone else's child with DS or if they know of other who

will not wear a jumper (windcheater/sweater) when it is cold but on a hot

day will.

Trent does this frequently, which is rather frustrating, my sister phoned

the other day after seeing Trent on an outing without a jumper on and it was

freezing cold day.  Admittedly on this particular day he wasn't listening to

me and didn't check if he had a jacket in his bag, as he had it the next day

I  am guessing he may of been cold.    We were away recently the wind was

blowing and cold,  Shannen and I were cold and rugged up, Trent was happy

just in a t-shirt, figured he must of been cold so stopped at a cheap store

and bought him a windcheater of his choice which was also more expensive

than I would have paid.  He is yet to wear it  -  he did have a  splash

jacket in his bag which he ended up putting on.

When it is hot, it is not unusual for him to put on several layers to go to

cricket  -  not sure why but it may be that he thinks it is the clothes to

wear.

Just wondering if this is a Trent thing or a DS thing.

Thanks for your input.

Keep smiling

does this and always has. I'm still working on teaching her about

Hi, I have been taking the Iodine since September 1st. I think the only improvement I can see is my fibro breasts. They seem softer, less lumpy than before. And my periods have stopped. My question is though, I’ve been taking 50 mg a day. I tried to up the dosage but I started having nonstop periods, like for weeks at a time. Is that normal, will it even out at some point? I’ve been going thru menopause for 10 years and up until a couple of years ago my periods will still relatively normal. One of the things I was hoping the Iodine would do was to even out my hormones enough to have normal periods. All is well until I take more than 50 mgs. Thanks for your thoughts.

As it stands right now, with the amount of Iodine I’m taking I’m fine. No periods. I if I started on progesterone I would start my period. No I haven’t done a test like that. Would I be able to do that type of test on my own, as in I don’t need a dr.? I do have estrogen dominance, according to a naturopathic dr. I used to go to. He had put me on a patch and the progesterone, and between those two things I was all catawampus. So I cut out those, tried them separately and still had issues. Vicki From: iodine [mailto:iodine ] On Behalf Of LinnSent: Thursday, March 08, 2012 4:25 PMiodine Subject: Re: Curious Have you done any saliva testing for sex hormones? Iodine can help balance out hormones. I know for me, I had severe bleeding and adenomyosis when I started on iodine. I was able to get the worst part of my problems under control in a couple of months. Progesterone levels can build up quickly and testing is prudent to make sure levels don't get too high. Dr. Lee's books are excellent references, especially the " What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About PreMenopause, Balance Your Life from Thirty to Fifty. " Thyroid is also a factor with menstruation and can influence heavy periods or cause missed periods or very long cycles. Dr. reported that iodine helps the body metabolize the estrogens to favor the safer form of estriol. Brownstein reports the same. If you've had issues with estrogen dominance, it could take a while to balance out but the only way to know positively, what is going on, is to test. If that's not the road you want to take, then stay at the level you feel best on. BTW, it's not normal for women to develop seriously heavy periods prior to menopause, just because it happens to a lot of women now doesn't make it normal. It's a risk of anemia that a lot of doctors just ignore. If it were me, I would try and find a happy medium between the 50 mgs and whatever amount you went up to next and see if that normalizes the cycles. Hope this helps!LinnModerator> > >> > > Hi I'm reposting this since I don't think anyone had responded and I> can't> > > get into my account to check on the groups page. Bonnie - "Pat" has never identified him / herself to anyone. This is the reason why many don't trust what "he" says.

It is normal to have hormone shifts with iodine - not necessarily progesterone increases. Mine levels stayed low on 125 mgs of Iodoral.

I have not seen a rise in my progesterone level in the 5 years I have been on iodine. I have been using a progesterone cream regularly for at least 7 years, and continue to need it. Since I have not had a cycle for 2-3 months now, I realized I should take a break from the progesterone for a week like I would have with a cycle. It is still obvious I need it – back to waking up at night and can’t go back to sleep, getting hot in the middle of the night. Progesterone has helped me very easily to through this change. I have had no other typical change of life symptoms, it just disappeared! And staying at the same level of progesterone keeps it that way. Donna in IL Bonnie - " Pat " has never identified him / herself to anyone. This is the reason why many don't trust what " he " says.
