Guest guest
Hi everyone, So awesome to search the database and find out all of this info about iodine! What a resource! Anyways, I am taking iodine to help with my Hashimotos. I have had it for at least 5 years, but have never been on thyroid meds. Only had symptoms in the last year, mostly gone now that I don't eat gluten. A couple of months ago my practitioner (who has had good results with iodine helping her own hashimotos) had me take a 12.5mg pill, which made me very sick for a week. She then put me on a bunch of mineral supplements and said we would try again in a couple of months after those levels come up. I started 6 weeks ago with 1mg/day, then upped to 3mg/day a few weeks ago. I have to say, I feel great - my temperature is in the 98's (I was running 94-95 for the past FIVE YEARS!) and have lots of energy. Anyways, the only problem I am having is heart palpitations, nothing horrible (I had horrible racing ones back before I quit gluten) but just a slow, steady pounding of my heart that keeps me from sleeping. My thyroid is also barely sore, some days I notice it and some days I don't. I have tried the salt loading... doesn't do anything for the heartbeat. Do you guys think this is from my body adjusting to the iodine? I have thought about backing off a bit, maybe taking it every other day but I am so in love with actually being warm... or if I stick with it, do you think my body will adjust? Thanks!
