Guest guest
I was intrigued with the thought of making my own iodine solution, and went on the hunt. Found a video on YouTube, then realized many of you here referred to his video previously. So, my question is... where is the cheapest source you DIYer's have been able to find for the potassium iodide and the iodine crystals? I noted the ebay seller mentioned previously, but was wondering if there was a cheaper place than that. Any help would be appreciated! Guest guest
I use the seller on ebay that uses. I ordered enough iodine and potassium iodide crystals so I could just add them together (like the video show you) and not measure. I made almost a full quart that has 5% Lugols for about $44 including shipping. My jar has a plastic lid and I keep it in a brown paper bag up in a cool dark cupboard. When I refill my bottles I use a pyrex measuring cup with a pouring spout and it works great. Karin > > I was intrigued with the thought of making my own iodine solution, and went on the hunt. Guest guest
Karin, I am going to be starting at 12.5 (2 drops), as I am 23 weeks pregnant and will be breastfeeding for at least a year, as well, and have never done Lugol's before. How long does a " standard " 2 ounce bottle last at 2 drops a day? (I'm trying to figure out how long it should take me to go through a quart of the stuff!) ~Jess
Guest guest
Hi Sheri, I found it in the following post (links to video and place to purchase ingredients): iodine/message/86541 Hope that helps! ~Jess
Guest guest
Hi Jess, I use 40 drops a day and I go through a 1 oz bottle in about a month. so I think your jar will last you for a long long time. I did have some others recommend making smaller batches but I just wanted to mix and not worry about it. Also I have given some away to friends and use it to paint on my thyroid among other animal needs so I just made the full quart. Also you may ramp up your dose after a couple years. I know Iodine doesn't go bad it just loses efficacy but I tend to think if stored properly it will last for years and years. Guest guest
Thanks for the quick response, Karin! I am new to Lugol's, so know basically nothing when it comes to dosing, etc. I was taking kelp before becoming pregnant, and stopped soon after I was pregnant and having hyper symptoms... So, I am pumped to be doing Lugol's with a nutrient protocol... especially after reading about unstable results for most with kelp! ~Jess
