Hi all, it has been awhile since I have been on this board. I so

appreciate the help you have given in the past. I usually ask on behalf

of my daughter, but today it is me.

Has anyone used iodine topically on their scalp to help with hair loss

(that is probably rooted in candida).

Back in August I had a candida flair and did not connect my massive hair

loss that occurred at the same time to that. I fought it naturally and

my hair and iron levels came back. My hair never came back fully.

Then in January my doctor gave me LDN and on the 2nd night I was

swimming in mucous. The candida was back. (LDN does provide a friendly

env for candida). I immediately stopped it but then my hair started

falling out again. It also blocked the absorption of magnesium for me.

It might have on the iron as well but I don't have labs this time to

prove or disprove. I am taking 50 mg of Lugol's each day. I finally

threw in the towel a couple of days ago and started on Diflucan. Oh,

and since January I have changed my diet: no gluten, very low carb, no

sugar, vinegar etc.

I also get an itchy scalp on occasion. I tried neem oil - but I can't

stand the smell. I tried neem shampoo and that makes my hair fall out

more. The doctor had prescribed a dandruff shampoo for the itch (which

is an anti-fungal) and while it helped the itch - it took a LOT of hair

out.

If I use the iodine topically do you have any suggestions? Has anyone

tried it and things gotten worse?

Thanks and have a blessed day,

Luci

Hi Luci,

just a suggestion.

Use coconut oil- with or without iodine - on your scalp at night. You may have to wrap your pillow with a towel.

Luci, did the Dr prescribe Nizoral shampoo? I lost hair for 4 years and nothing worked. I started using Nizoral, and yes hair did still fall. I also added Neem oil shampoo and I still use that and then Nizoral about once a month. I was not on idodine at that time. I don't know really which started the ball rolling but as soon as I started taking Iodoral only 6mg it started slowing down alot. I am not tolerating Iodoral on a regular basis but with the combo of those 3 things my hair started to regrow. In the last couple weeks I am not getting much at all out combing it or after washing it. I thought it was caused by being hypo for so long but now I really believe it was yeast, fungus something of that nature. I never painted it on my scalp but if it hadn't stopped I sure would have given it a try. It takes time believe me but I was really shocked at how it just stopped falling out after a few months of those shampoos and the the idodine just seemed stop it completely. I have always had yeast problems and our house flooded several years ago and I was living in mold that would not go away. We finally moved but it wasn't until I did the above that it finally stopped. The neem shampoo I use has a wonderful smell but the oil itself is horrible. Stick with it, it worked for me and I had even bought a wig it had gotten so bad.

Hi Marilyn, thanks for your input... the dr prescribed Nizoral and that

just took so much hair out it was frightening. I too have a nice

smelling shampoo with neem. When I tried it more hair came out (but not

as much as Nizoral). I take Lugol's - it was only 12 mg I think and

then I upped it to 50. What has been a life saver for me is

progesterone cream. I noticed that if I increase it the number of hairs

coming out decrease - but I am still at a high number. I also take

neem orally. I was taking NuHair to help me get past the first bout of

hair loss, when the 2nd bout rolled in the Nuhair did nothing. I

think I may give the neem shampoo a try.

I just recently started putting coconut oil on my scalp (I was using

olive oil) and today after my shower I painted with iodine a small

portion on the top of my head. Also what is really strange - my right

side is so much thinner than the left. I am grateful that God blessed

me with really curly hair so I can puff it up and cover up. The woman

at the wig place told me with my kind of hair I would need human hair

and I would have to perm it or go custom which would take months to get

and cost a boat load of $. She is thinking she may be able to find a

human hair wig in the African American line for me. She suggested I

stick with trying to kill the fungus and pray the hair returns.

It was really frustrating to have this happen twice in such a short

period of time, but God has a purpose. By this happening the way it did

it revealed the root cause - candida. This stuff is horrible and so

hard to get rid of. I am contemplating doing a iodine enema to help

the intestinal area. Iodine seems to really be my friend through all

of this. Funny how God works, I got involved in iodine for my now 20 yr

old who was diagnosed with hypothroidism, Hashis and papillary

carcinoma. She too lost a lot of hair. I am beginning to ramble...

Thanks much and have a blessed day,

Luci
