Guest guest
I had the manometry testing done the end of October. I heard from my doc early the next week with an appt and then the Dx. The last few days have been cruddy for eating. I broke out the food processor tonight. Waaaaaaah J Sent from my CrackBerry® powered by Virgin Mobile. New to the group. Hi. I am Jenn in NB, Canada. I was diagnosed a few months ago, but had my initial treatment started a few years ago for reflux. I now get food stuck, regurge food at night, and vomit all too frequently. I am a bit on the fluffy side and haven't had weight loss yet, but I am finally to the point where eating is a pita. I am seeing a cardio-thoracic surgeon in Halifax, NS at the end of the month. I am unsure of wait times for surgery there. Hello to all, and hoping to catch up on some older messages for more info on living with this. Guest guest
Hi Jenn Looked at wait times in Halifax, most are very long. Could not find out what group you would fit in. http://www.gov.ns.ca/health/waittimes/category.asp If I were you check out Totonto for an Achalasia specialist. I was from Saskatoon and Toronto, now in Calif, last 50 years. I have brothers in Calgary and Saskatoon, so I know about wait times. My Achalasia started at age 75 as reflux in the middle of the nite, I believe Achalasia was caused by reflux or GERD, burning the LES. At my age I decided to stay away from doctors. Once I found out what I could eat and how to cope with it, I am now doing fine. Ray CA OC 81 old as hell, but active and had no procedures at all. > > Hi. I am Jenn in NB, Canada. Guest guest
Hi, I am so happy to be part of this group. I have never had thyroid problems, but I fear that my lack of iodine intake has caused my thyroid tumor. I will need to have surgery in a few weeks to remove a large 5 cm. tumor that has a 30% chance of being malignant. As soon as I found out that I had a growth on my tumor, I started doing research and found that lack of iodine can cause adenomos on the thyroid. I immediately started eating 1/3 of a cup of Dulse seaweed, which contains 780% of the daily requirement or about 1,100 mg. of iodine. My question to the group is: would eating dulse every day take the place of taking an iodine supplement? Also, should I wait until after the surgery to take the iodine or start taking it now, if the Dulse seaweed is not the answer to getting enough iodine into my body. Thanks so much for any advice or suggestions! Lynne
Guest guest
Hi Lynne,Welcome! Your question about kelp/dulse is best answered in the the Guide to Supplementing with iodine that you received when you joined. Please go back and reread that document. If you have a tumor, then you have had thyroid problems. The iodine protocol might help shrink the tumor, but could take some time. How quickly did the tumor grow? Many have regretted surgery on their thyroid. The full iodine protocol will help either way. Guest guest
Hi Donna, Thank you for your welcome! I have no idea how long I have had this tumor. I never noticed the bump on my neck, and I hadn't been to a general doctor for a yearly exam in about 6 years. My doctor saw the lump right away, but my gyn/ob never did. She told me that the gyn/ob that I had just seen in December should have caught that, since it was such a big bump. What I meant about not having thyroid problems is that, I didn't have any symptoms. I am healthy and feel energetic all day. I have no problems with fatigue or weight, etc. My fear is that I don't have much time to wait for it to shrink, because if it doesn't shrink and it is cancer and spreads to other organs, that could be so much worse than getting this surgery. I'll go re-read that document now. Thanks!! LynneOn Sat, Mar 17, 2012 at 11:44 AM, Donna Iler <Donna@...> wrote: Hi Lynne,Welcome! Guest guest
Lynne Glad to hear you are getting other opinions, the thing I have found is you need to find others that have NOT been drinking out of the same coffee pot so to speak, as you may get the same wrong answers. Most doctors have been taught the same thing and read the same text books and have not looked outside the box they get trapped in in Medical School. Hope every thing turns out well for you. kmk Not sure where the seaweed info is coming from, but the RDA for iodine is 150 mcg (micrograms) which is ridiculously low. Seaweed will provide iodine in mcg (microgram) doses. You need to be looking at mgs (milligrams) for iodine, seaweed won't be able to provide the amount you'd need to treat for cancer. Iodoral or Lugol's iodine will provide the larger milligram doses. LinnModerator >> Hi,> I am so happy to be part of this group.
