Guest guest
Hi Bonnie, I noticed by the lab tests you posted that you are very hypothyroid (looking at your FreeT3 and FreeT4 ranges). You didn’t say whether or not you are taking Natural Thyroid Hormone. Looks as though you would really benefit from Erfa or Naturethroid. Kind regards, Kathleen moderator ps, I don’t know the answer to your ATP Co-Factors question, perhaps someone else will. List of Thyroid Nutrients & why can't I take them?? Hello: I took a look at 's Thyroid Nutrients and while I take them all - they aren't in the high doses that she recommends. The B2 - 200 mg. per day andthe B3 - 1,000 mg. per day I believe are in the ATP Co-factors and I can see they are needed for Organification. So why can I NOT take the ATP Co-Factors? I took 1/2 pill at noon one day and was awake till the next day. Holy Cow that was awful. Does anyone know why that would happen? Thanks a lot if you can help me understand this. Guest guest
Hello my Dear Kathleen: I had no idea after being on Iodine for 8 months, that I was Hypo-Thyroid. I thought the free T’s looked okay and the TSH was around 3.00 when I started Lugol’s. Good job I asked someone to look at them as my Nurse Practioner didn’t say a word about having TSH at 3.35 (.35 – 5.00) for the last 20 years. “Oh, that’s okay, as long as it’s under 5.00 and sorry we don’t do the FreeT3 here, because it’s expensive and you don’t need it anyway, as long as your TSH is within the normal range. Mrs. Cole, you worry too much”. No I am not taking any Thyroid meds but I did for 5 years (Levothyroxine and felt no better 20 years ago) at about the time of Menopause as my TSH went up a bit. So 5 years later I started using Progesterone cream and my TSH went right back down again, so there is a connection there with Progesterone and the Thyroid. Also my doctor (I don’t see very often) whose office is several hours away tends to OVERDOSE with everything (hormones included) and so if I ask her for Erfa, how will I know what is a normal dose? Are there guidelines somewhere? What scares me about taking a Thyroid pill is I read that Dr. Brownstein said we should treat the Adrenals first before starting Thyroid. So what to do? I also asked Steph, since my TSH has gone to 11.0, should I be stopping the Iodine because she said, that is what is making the TSH go up. Or should I just cut back? Is the TSH trying to get the T4 to go higher? Is that the whole idea? I’m such a dummy. Can a person with Malabsorption and NO MOTILITY be taking meds by mouth? Would they even work properly? I hope someone has some clues for me. Guest guest
Hi Bonnie, Here is a wonderful site that explains why TSH is not a good test for measuring thyroid function. And how the best tests for that are FreeT3 and FreeT4. Besides the page I am posting, the whole site is a wealth of information on thyroid health. I hope you have time to look it over. http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/recommended-labwork/ Your Free's are on the low side and as you will see, most feel best with them in the mid to high range. The site I posted will also tell you how to start NTH and slowly work up to the dose that is best for you. The Guidelines are very clear on that site of how to go by symptoms and testing the Free's. I am sorry that they had you on synthetic thyroid years ago, that doesen't work, as you found out. But Natural Thyroid Hormone (such as Erfa or Naturethroid) is a wonderful material. I take 3 grains of Naturethroid daily sublingually. This works well for me and would work well for someone with poor motility because it gets absorbed in the mouth, not the intestines. Just because your TSH is up, is no reason to stop iodine. Again, TSH is a pretty worthless test; but again your Free's are low and it might be good for you to look into thaking NTH. Please read the site I posted, you will learn much there! Kindly, Kathleen moderator List of Thyroid Nutrients & why can't I take them??
