Hi Bonnie,

I wrote to you before about your test numbers, perhaps you didn’t see my answer. The TSH being high is of no consequence if is caused by iodine, however your FreeT3 and FreeT4 are very low indicating that you are tending towards hypothyroidism. Most people feel best with their Free's in the middle to upper ranges. In the Guide in our files, you will read that elevated TSH when beginning iodine is of no importance. But since your Free's are low AND your TSH is high, that again indicates you are most likely hypo. Erfa would be the NTH you would take as you are in Canada. I posted the link to the Stop the Thyroid Madness site that explained about thyroid labs, what are the optimum numbers and how to start and monitor NTH, did you get that email? Incase you didn’t notice my answer, here are the links again:

http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/tsh-why-its-useless/

http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/natural-thyroid-101/

When you have time, look over the whole site. You will learn much there.

If you were doing well at 100mg., why did you go down to 50mg.? Again, if your TSH is high due to iodine intake, there is no cause for you to lower your Lugol's dosage. If your TSH is high because it is a hypo symptom, again there is no reason to lower your Lugol's.

What do I do now please?

Hello:

I started Iodine in July and right away the TSH started rising which I thought was normal and that within about 6 months, it would go down. Steph says that MOST don't rise. So what do I do now? I was taking 100 mg. of Iodone and now have dropped back to 50 mg. That decrease should make the TSH go back down. Is that idea? Steph's words are in blue below. I just don't know where to go from here. Is it important now to get the TSH back down?

Aug. 2011 Nov. 2011 Feb. 2012

TSH 3.35 9.44 11.23

Free T4 (9 - 23) 13 13 11

Free T3 (3.5 - 6.5) 4.4 4.3

Ok, looking again I can see that your Free's have stayed the same but your TSH has increased and that would more than likely be iodine.

Thanks,

Bonnie

Bonnie -

I say this tenderly but you are driving me crazy with your worry. Why worry that only a few have increases in TSH? If you go back to the guide you will see that it is NORMAL for this to happen. So why did you bring your Iodine dose down? If it were me I would continue to push it to see if I could improve the Free's. Also, you have seen the nutrients that help to support the thyroid - because I sent you to them a few days ago.

I think you need to figure out what your health goals are and then set out a plan of attack. I understand fear and wondering if you are on the right track with what you are doing. I was fighting cancer and had 2 children ages 3 yrs & 5 yrs. I was told by my endo that if I didn't do things his way I would die. That is terrifying. But I had to put those fears aside because they are damaging to your body too. Do the right things and your body will heal. Maybe you will need to take thyroid medication because there is too much damage (how much more damaged can you get than having a thyroid removed like I have had) but the rest of your body is an amazing thing.

Three things are key:

Food / Nutrients

Detoxification

Mental Attitude

You can overcome a lot with these three things.

My Dear

Kathleen:

Thank you so

much for writing and I did read your email but I thought that after 6 months

(Dr. B said the TSH would go down ) and it’s been almost 9 months now.

I didn’t

know that having a high TSH was of no consequence but thought that it would

have lowered by now and if it continues to rise, I should just ignore it??

Is this how it

works = Rising TSH should bring the Free T’s up to a higher level?

Yesterday

visiting my Nurse Practioner she was very upset about this high TSH and

URGED ME to stop the Iodine. I don’t have the SMARTS to explain

what this all means and she wasn’t really listening anyways.

I’m re-reading

Dr. B’s Iodine book and he has a List there, that I didn’t notice

before showing the reasons you’re not converting the T4 to T3, one of

them is AGE, Diabetes, taking a Beta Blocker, and the other nutrients.

I fall into all 4 of those categories.

So I will go

back up to the 100 mg., try and get off this Beta Blocker and take more

supplements.

So if you will

reply to my questions above, I shall not worry.

Thanks,

Bonnie

Hi Bonnie,

If I had your FreeT3 and FreeT4 numbers, I would be taking NTH. (actually I am! =-).

That is why I posted the site with info on it for you. But if you are feeling well with your lab test numbers where they are, then you need to do what you feel is best for you!

Bottom line of what I was saying is this. Yes, I would stay at 100 mg. Lugol's and look into taking NTH.

That's it!

I don’t

have a clue what this NTH is, but I’m sure I’ll see it on the STTM

Hi Bonnie,

NTH= Natural Thyroid Hormone. Naturethroid, Armour, Erfa and a few others fall into this category. It is made from porcine thyroid glands. It is the best because piggies are closest to humans in many ways ( skin, heart, thyroid, etc.) and it's the way to go if you need help with thyroid hormone. Synthetic thyroid medication is not recommended.

Kind regards,

Kathleen
