Guest guest
Hi All, I joined the group just before christmas, and need some advice. I live in Ireland - in the far west - and have been diagnosed hypo for some 4 years and have just started taking t3. I was taking armour but experiencing slight chest pains and couldn't up the dose beyond 1.5grains, but was still feeling cold. I introduced t3 just before christmas, but have actually stopped taking the armour now and am taking 15 mcg t3 in two doses, 10mcg in morning and 5mcg mid afternoon. I feel pretty good but am a little 'spacy'. My GP hasn't a clue beyond t4 for hypo - and I have had a couple of consultations with Dr P by telephone and introduced T3 in agreement with him. But feel as if I am doing this blindfold on my own. I take nutri-adrenal extra - 4 tabs daily, vits B12,d3,c, b complex and magnesium and am trying to get my iron levels up along with the T3. Bloods were done in December before T3, as follows- T4Free 13.1 (12-22) T3 Free 6.5 (3.9-6.7) TSH 0.36 (0.4-3.8) Ferritin 67 (17-320) RBC 4.01 (4.2-5.4) haemoglobin 13 (12-16) haematocrit 0.38 (0.37-0.47) % Trans Sat 32.7 (0.0-33) ALT 131 (<45) The one my dr is concerned about is the liver because this has gone up from 65 in six weeks - the only thing I have started taking in that time was milk thistle to support the liver function, nutri-adrenal extra and progesterone. I don't drink alcohol. Could this be due to taking armour and my metabolism starting to work more efficiently and having to process fat rather than just storing it? or is there something I can do to support my liver better? I will have more tests done at end Jan to see if there is any change. Also my blood-pressure has been elevated around 150/100 ish - I am 4 stones overweight and usually take magnesium to help here but had stopped taking it for most of December so I wonder if this has had a negative impact. I need to increase the T3 - I have paul robinson's book and am plodding through it but sometimes get a little overwhelmed with all the testing and checking that I 'should' be doing. Sorry for the length of this, any advice is gratefully accepted. Does anyone out there know of a good endo in the cork area Thanks Finola
Guest guest
Hello Finola and welcome to our Forum where I hope you will get all the help and support you need. There could have been one (or more) of the associated conditions that go along with being hypothyroid that you were suffering that stopped the thyroid hormone from working. I have attached a list of these and you should go through them carefully by way of a process of elimination and get all the tests recommended either by your NHS doctor, or if not done within the NHS, get them done privately,. We can help you with this. How much vitamin B12, D3, vitamin C and magnesium are you taking? When you had your thyroid function tests done, had you taken your T3 on the morning before you had your blood drawn. At this point, cannot really answer the question about your increased ALT level, you need to wait and see what the results are of the other blood tests that are to be done at the end of January, but I doubt it would be taking Armour. To lower your cholesterol, you might wish to try taking high dose Niacin (vitamin B3), e.g. 350mgs daily and also high dose CoEnzymeQ10, e.g. 300mgs daily. These are both natural products and work well. BP tablets can cause problems for a lot of people being prescribed them. I would start taking your magnesium again, around 400/500mgs daily. Why did you stop taking this. With 's book, take baby steps at a time and don't try to read too much before you fully understand what it is you are reading. It is also a good idea to spend some time setting out a diary and writing this up every night so you can keep a check on what is changing, for good or bad, noting everything you have taken that day, what time, what your BP/Temperature/pulse rate was at specific times every day. Well worth the effort. I have sent you a copy of my list of recommended doctors, but you will see most are in the UK.
