Guest guest
Baby needs your thyroxine, this is why pregnant Mum's need to increase their dose of levothyroxine when they become pregnant. I think on this occasion, your doctor is right, and you need to add in some levothyroxine (T4) with your T3. However, you don't have to take T4-only. Probably a small dose of just 25mcgs will be sufficient, and see how you get on with your T3 at it's present dose. If you start to get hyper symptoms, then you may need to decrease your T3 dose by half a tablet, but you may be fine just adding 25mcgs T4. What was the result of your free T4 test. Find this out and let us have the reference range. Read the information here - this should help you http://thyroid.about.com/od/hormonepregnantmenopause1/a/dosechange.htm Good luck Luv - Sheila everyone Just come back from meeting with the consultant. Briefly I take t3 only (cynomel). I want to have a baby, i may be pregnant this month but cant test yet as its too soon but i am experiencing symptoms of being pregnant. I have no thyroid due to having thyroid cancer the consultant advised me to take t4 as the amount of t3 I take could be too much for the baby. She advised that a baby needs t4 and if I don't take the t4 the baby could develop abnormalities eg brain problems. I feel great on t3 only the best I have ever felt. Taking t4 levothyroxine made me so ill with so many symptoms I couldn't cope with. if I have to take t4 for 9 months then I will have to bear it but I know it's going to make me so ill. Can anyone help me ? Thank you Donna Is she right that I am going to have to go back on levothyroxine until baby is born ? No virus found in this message. Guest guest
Thank you Sheila. The consultant wanted to start me on 100 levothyroxine. I think you are right in adding a bit of t4. Consultant said women who take a small amount of t4 with their usual t3 still isn't enough to prevent abnormalities. Would you say to start off with 25 t4 and take my usual dose of 36.75mg cynomel and then have bloods taken in 4 weeks to see how much to increase it by ? Would I need to add more t4 or t3 at that point. Bit concerned as if I am pregnant I have no t4 in my system and that takes weeks to build up what can that potentially be doing to the baby's development ? My blood results 4 weeks ago were; Tsh 0.03 (don't know range but was within and needs to be low to surpress cancer cells) FT4 zero Ft4 9 (range is 5-7 I think) little over Had my bloods done today so will update when I have results. Thanks so much Sheila for your guidance :-) donna > > Baby needs your thyroxine, this is why pregnant Mum's need to increase their > dose of levothyroxine when they become pregnant. Guest guest
Morning Sheila I have spoken to a reputable private dr (won't name as I think it's not allowed) and he said that a baby doesn't actually need t4 it needs t3 and advised me to continue with what I'm doing currently and continue with taking cynomel t3 only during pregnancy. Feeling happier this morning. Just thought I'd share that with you Donna > > Thank you Sheila. > > The consultant wanted to start me on 100 levothyroxine. I think you are right in adding a bit of t4.
