Guest guest
saw the doc today and she is refering me to an endo at the royal gwent hospital. it seems that in wales we are not allowed to choose an endo out of area so i can't see the prof in cardiff. it will be a waiting game now in the meantime she has increased my t4 to 100mcg. Surely, any endo worth his salary will order an SST for you with cortisol figures like yours.... but it is frustrating that you now have to wait. I was hoping your GP would have been able to order those tests...but at least she is now referring you and you've got the increase in T4 that you wanted. Let's hope it makes you feel a bit better. Did your GP make any comments about the letter and your low cortisol levels or was she just trying to get rid of you as quickly as possible? With warm wishes,
Guest guest
Sian, I can't help on the thyroid side of things but I think I can on the referral side. My understanding is that anyone has the legal right to see any health professional they choose. The other way to get round this is simply to decline all care from any health professional other than the one you want to see. I work as an advocate for pregnant women and we change care teams, transfer care bewteen Health Boards, accept and declien care from individual health professionals as a matter of course, all the time. It sounds like your GP either isn't aware of your legal rights or is hoping you don't know them in order to make her life easier. Guest guest
hi kath it seems that in wales you do not have a right to choose who you see. this is the link i found confirming it: http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/wales/your_family/health_index_wales/nhs_services_\ in_wales/using_nhs_hospital_services_in_wales.htm#seeing_a_consultant > > > Sian, I can't help on the thyroid side of things but I think I can on the referral side. > > My understanding is that anyone has the legal right to see any health professional they choose. Guest guest
> i think she felt a bit out of her depth to be honest. That's because she is out of her depth ....and she should be ashamed about that. Perhaps she will have learned a lesson today and will now brush up on her knowledge.... one can only hope. Honestly, any GP should be fully aware of the dangers of such low cortisol levels; it's elemetary stuff. You don't need to be an endocrinologist or specialist of any kind to know this. What was she doing at med school when the others were paying attention, I wonder ! Hope your wait won't be too long, Sian. best wishes,
Guest guest
Hi Sian, Yes, that's right. You can't demand to see a specific health professional so you get round it by declining care from anyone but that person. Like I said, we do this all the time. I'm in Swansea and work with women across South Wales. Sorry, I prob didn't say what I meant veyr coherantly as my head is like a cotton woll ball at the moment.
