Guest guest
Nope - they avoided that like the plague. Such a shame. I know of nowhere else that you can get Erfa without a prescription, or any other reputable pharmacy that is selling it, which makes me think this is Erfa's policy. Luv - Sheila Have they ever spelt out what the regulation change *is*? Announced by whom? It's rather odd that this is the only company so far to mention it. No virus found in this message. Guest guest
Helen, see the attached. There is a long letter from the MHRA from way back in 2004 who wrote to me setting out the details about doctors being able to prescribe natural thyroid extract (Armour thyroid) if their patients did not recover their health on levothyroxine-only medication. There are also emails saying more or less the same about Erfa Thyroid, Nature Throid and Westhroid. These are the letters members should copy and print out to show their doctors who tell you they are not allowed to prescribe unlicensed medicines. They ARE - and they DO - a growing number of them. Luv - Sheila Hi . I wouldn't worry, from the conversation I had with the chap at the MHRA, there is no legal impediment to privately importing thyroid medication. I didn't mention V.P. by name, anyway. But it seems that there is no legal grey area here - UK law is not being flouted. I would like to know if NDT is classed at POM (prescription only medicine), P (available from pharmacists only) or GSL (General Sales List), haven't been able to find that one out yet. Anyway, see my new post - the 'new regulations' are only at the compounding pharmacy that provides Erfa to V.P, nothing to do with UK regulations. x Helen 2 of 2 File(s) MHRAletter.doc MHRA confirmation re Natur1.doc
Guest guest
Hi Helen, I have attached a copy of a letter I sent out to all doctors after the British Thyroid Association put out the very misleading (and in parts incorrect) information in their Statement which they published on their web site. This might answer some of your questions. This was part of the information I gave to my endocrinologist when he told me he would not recommend Armour for me because it had potency problems in the past, and that the T4 and T3 was not standardised. After he received the information and read through it all, he then changed his mind and recommended Armour for me which my GP was then happy to prescribe. Luv - Sheila Thanks Sheila, have just downloaded those. I'd still be curious to find out how NDT is categorised in the PMO/P/GSL system, just out of curiosity. Useful to have these facts at hand when the doctor spouts rubbish... It would also be nice to know of some other commonly used but unlicensed medications. (Calamine lotion? Kaolin and morphine? I have no idea...) So that when a doctor uses 'not licensed' as an excuse, I can say 'well neither are X, Y, and Z'... x Helen > > Helen, see the attached.
