Guest guest
The way I see it, they may both arise at the same time (for all anyone knows) but you have to treat the adrenal problem first in order to get good results with thyroid hormone treatment. I first discovered that I had low functioning thyroid, and then learned about all the adrenal stuff. which I'd never even heard of before. I did the 24-hr saliva test and discovered that my cortisol production is rather feeble (except at bedtime, when it goes up!) - so I'm doing what I can to help it. Taking Nutri Adrenal Extra and a bunch of vitamin, herb and mineral supplements, and doing my daily average temperatures so that I'll hopefully see an improvement over time. They do seem to have become a shade higher and a bit less erratic, nothing major but a small improvement that I hope will continue. Once I really see a definite improvement, I'll try NDT, which I'll have to order from abroad without a prescription unless I can find a helpful doctor. > > Does anyone know how you can tell if it's adrenal fatigue that's causing your thyroid problems, or hypothyroidism which has given you adrenal fatigue? Guest guest
Sorry, I forgot to attach the document promised - here it is . Also attached is a document you should read about the adrenal/thyroid connection. If you have low adrenal reserve, you must treat the adrenals first before starting thyroid hormone. Luv - Sheila Does anyone know how you can tell if it's adrenal fatigue that's causing your thyroid problems, or hypothyroidism which has given you adrenal fatigue? A bit like the chicken and the egg, which came first. I don't know which problem to treat first. If I treat the adrenal fatigue on it's own, my thyroid problems might sort themselves out. Diagnosed as hypoT by Dr S but I'm not taking any T4 or T3, as very small doses of both give me chest pains so I am considering an adrenal issue. Any help greatly appreciated. Guest guest
Thanks both. So do you think it is possible to treat my adrenals and resolve my thyroid symptoms at the same time with no additional thyroid hormone? Guest guest
When starting with adrenal supplements, whichever one you choose, you should stop all thyroid hormone replacement for 7 days and concentrate on the adrenals only during that time. We recommend Nutri Adrenal Extra (see our FILES SECTION (accessible from the Home Page of this forum) and scroll down the list of FOLDERS until you come to the one entitled 'Discounts on Tests and Supplements' and in that document, open 'Nutri Ltd' document and follow the instructions for ordering. You will need to quote the TPA reference number to claim the 33% discount. Start by taking 1 tablet daily with breakfast and with it, take 3/4000mgs vitamin C to help with absorption. On the 8th day, introduce back the thyroid hormone replacement you were taking previously at the same dose. On the 10th day, increase the Nutri Adrenal Extra by another tablet and take this with lunch. Never take any NAE after 1.00p.m. If necessary, you can increase the dose again in another 10 days or so by another tablet. You can go up to 6 tablets daily, but if these are not working you may need a course of hydrocortisone, but we will meet that problem when, and if it arises. If you have hypothyroid symptoms and not taking any thyroid hormone replacement, for some people, once they have treated their adrenals, their thyroid starts to function properly again, but not in all cases, you will probably still require thyroid hormone replacement. Guest guest
Hi Sheila, Thank you :-) you've made things so much clearer! So, I will address my adrenal glands and see how it goes. I will let you know what happens. Take care xx > but if these are not working you may need a course > of hydrocortisone, but we will meet that problem when, and if it arises. > > If you have hypothyroid symptoms and not taking any thyroid hormone > replacement, for some people, once they have treated their adrenals, their > thyroid starts to function properly again, but not in all cases, you will > probably still require thyroid hormone replacement. > > Luv - Sheila > > >
