Guest guest
I love the way they automatically push the onus of unusual results back onto the patient making it all her fault for not having a good diet. 2 > -- notes say 'indicative of folate deficiency, however, note falsely low folate levels can be seen in B12 deficiency and patients with poor diet' >
Guest guest
Oh My! B12 should be right up there at the top of the reference range. You need around 1000mcgs B12 sublingual tablets taken twice daily until your levels start to rise and then 1000mcgs daily, but it would be better if you had a course of B12 injections, especially as pernicious anaemia runs in your family. Serum Folate of 2.2 is VERY low and you should be asking your doctor to start you on 5mcgs Folic Acid. Serum Ferritin (stored iron) is fine. However, the reference range given is that for males (around 30 to 300) and not females (around 20 to 200). Strange that they tested free T3 and not free T4 as well. Come clean with your GP and tell him of your need to self medicate using the active thyroid hormone T3 - and that under the circumstances, these are very normal TFT's. However, did you take any T3 on the morning you had your blood drawn? When did you last increase your T3 - you should be increasing it by 10mcgs (12.5mcgs) depending which brand you are using on a 3 to 4 weekly basis until you find the dose that suits you best. Luv - Sheila Dear All I have had a blood test for serum B12 and Folate and TFT, these are the results. I should be grateful to hear your comments. Serum B12 - 369.0 ng/l range 180-914 -- notes say 'indicative of folate deficiency, however, note falsely low folate levels can be seen in B12 deficiency and patients with poor diet' Serum Folate - 2.2ng/ml (2.4-28.0) - notes say ' please note change in methodology - Folate NR >2.4ng/ml 30/10/2011 indicative of folate deficiency, however, note falsely low folate levels can be seen in B12 deficiency and patients with poor diet - below low reference limit' Serum ferritin - 169ng/ml (11.0 - 307.0) - notes say the same as for B12 above. Thyroid Results TSH <0.02mU/L (0.3 - 5.5) Free T3 5.9pmol/L (3.9 - 6.8) No mention of T4 - I assume they did not test it. I did not even ask for the FT3 they seem to have done it automatically unless the GP requested, but I don't know if he did. I take 75mcg Cynomel split mornings and afternoons. No hyper symptoms on this dose. I am about to write to GP explaining that I self medicate and why, and that this is where I would expect my results to be.
