Guest guest
Really confused over the last few days and do hope someone can help. I have been on the same supplements and 50mcg for about six months and there have been huge improvements in my many symptoms. After 16 years my high blood pressure had gone right down and a month ago I was able to stop all medication for that. For a couple of days now my pulse is racing, I feel hot with disturbed sleep and my blood pressure is going up again. It is really depressing as I thought all was ok at last. Any ideas why I should be getting these symptoms when there has been no change in my thyroid medications? Happy & healthy 2012 to everyone! Guest guest
Remind us what supplements you have been taking and have you had any drastic changes of the Christmas period, i.e. forgetting to take your supplements and medications or taken on a different diet/ drinks etc. Ask your GP to test your iron, transferrin saturation%, magnesium, ferritin, vitamin B12, vitamin D3, magnesium, folate, copper and zinc and when you have the results, post them here with the reference range for each test. For quite a lot of people, thyroxine just stops working, without us knowing any reason why. It can work for many people for years and years, and then suddenly, right out of the blue, everything goes down the plug hole. As you know, T4 needs to convert to T3, but if it suddenly decides to stop converting, the T4 lays in your blood with nowhere to go, and if it is stops converting, it builds up in the blood, causing you symptoms of thyroid toxicity, which would include the symptoms you are suffering. Ask for a full thyroid function test as soon as possible to see if this is the problem. Luv - Sheila Really confused over the last few days and do hope someone can help. Guest guest
Ooo! that makes a different to my response given previously. In this case , drop the dosage of T3 by 5mcgs to see if that helps, and if it doesn't, drop it by another 5mcgs. Are you taking the T3 twice daily. If you are taking the dose all in one go, then don't drop the dose, try taking 25mcgs first thing when you wake and the other 25mcgs in the middle of the afternoon and see if that helps. Guest guest
i am not sure if i am allowed to comment here but when i took t3 meds i had to take it all day long in very very small quantities..hard to cut pills so i would sometimes use half the powder!! i never took more than 5 mcg at any one dose to start..then when i adjusted i would add another 5 about 4 hours later...taking my last dose at bedtime as i turned off the light....eventually worked up to straight t3 at 75 mg...NO t4 med at all...took that away BEFORE ever starting t3 meds...dosed finally every 4 hours or so throughout the day....hope this might help! Guest guest
Thanks Sheila I do split my 50mcg T3 into two or three. What is puzzling me is that I have been fine for almost 6 months on this and can't think what has happened. I will try dropping the amount by 5mcg to see if that helps. Try dropping T3 by 5mcgs to see if that helps, and if it > doesn't, drop it by another 5mcgs. Guest guest
Hi Dawn, everybody who is a member of TPA is allowed to comment on whatever topic is being discussed. This is an open forum and all comments are welcome. You make a very good point, and I know of one woman who could only get the T3 she needed by scraping the top of a T3 tablet with a razor blade, wetting her index finger and picking up the bit of 'dust' and putting into her mouth. She did this on numerous occasions throughout the day. She did manage to get the amount her body required, but she couldn't take it any other way. She has long left TPA - hopefully because she had found at last what best worked for her, which is something each and everyone of us has to do.
