Guest guest
First , get your GP to check your levels of iron, transferrin saturation%, ferritin, vitamin B12, vitamin D3, magnesium, folate, copper and zinc. Read the attached document about some of the associated conditions that stop thyroid hormone from working and go through them by way of a process of elimination. Get the 24 hour salivary adrenal profile done to check your levels of cortisol and DHEA from Genova Diagnostics if this has not already been done. Check the Home Page of this forum and in the Menu, click on FILES, and in that list, scroll down to the FOLDER entitled 'Discounts on Tests and Supplements'. On that page, open the 'Genova Diagnostics' document and follow the instructions for ordering the test from there, remembering to quote 'Thyroid Patient Advocacy' as your practitioner. When you get all these results, post them here together with the reference range for each test done. from your symptoms, it also sounds as if you would do better by trying a gluten free diet, going down this road might suddenly stop all these symptoms. Do you know if you have ever been tested to find out whether you have thyroid antibodies (Hashimoto's disease)? Luv - Sheila I have Hashimoto's and have been taking Erfa and 1 NAX a day since last March. Initially, I took 2 grains of Erfa a day and felt very well on it. However, I seemed to stop feeling the benefits of it as the months went by and now feel quite tired and achey again. I have increased my dose gradually to 3 and a half grains a day and been taking temps and pulse before I get out of bed every morning. My pulse averages at 66bpm and my temp averages 36.3C. I do not feel shaky or have palpitations so I think my body is tolerating the dose well. However, I still feel sluggish and have constipation, a bloated tummy and a stuffed-up feeling in my sinuses all the time. My gut feeling is that my metabolism is still sluggish. I am thinking of upping my dose to 4 grains a day shortly or taking Lugol's iodine to see if that will wake my metabolism up a bit more. I would be very grateful if anyone could shed any light on why I still feel so sluggish on 3 and a half grains a day. Many thanks, McGowan No virus found in this message. Guest guest
Hi I am also on erfa, but started to get ibs-type symptoms a while back, also crippling foot pain which my gp thought was arthritis. I went gluten-free a few months back, and have no further symptoms. My foot which I could barely walk on has returned to normal, and I am needing less erfa than I was on at the time. I really feel that many, many of todays ills are caused by our inability to properly digest gluten, plus the fact that it is in so many foods in such high proprtions these days. Have you done all the other tests for adrenals and sex hormones. Can you post recent results? I take five grains and even 5 1/2 of Erfa in the winter. I was also on 5 grains of old Armour and Naturethroid before switching to Erfa. Fibrojay
Guest guest
Thanks Sheila. Yes... I have had tests for thyroid antibodies. My last test, in October, said they are greater than 1000. Guest guest
Then I would definitely try the option of a gluten free diet and see if that makes a difference . Luv - Sheila Thanks Sheila. Guest guest
The gluten free diet could help you loads, especially with the bloating and the stuffy nose.... well worth doing.... The iodine would help if you had a thyroid which was underperforming due to a lack of iodine. If you have a non functioning thyroid then the iodine wouldn't be used.... , > > Then I would definitely try the option of a gluten free diet and see if that > makes a difference . > > Luv - Sheila >
Guest guest
Thanks for the replies, everyone! I've been taking Spatone iron, magnesium, vit c, selenium, probiotics, Q10, vit B12, vit D, and Omega 3 for the last year, so I don't think it's a deficiency there. I've read all the posts about people doing well on gluten-free diets and have been drastically reducing my consumption of it. I think it's helped. I'm convinced it's just that I need a bigger dose of Erfa. I'm quite a large, athletic woman so my size could have something to do with it. Love, McGowan
Guest guest
Then you will only find out whether it is your dose of Erfa that needs increasing by trying the experiment . If you get palpitations, feeling spaced out, dizzy, sweaty, don't take any more on the day of the latest increase and go back to the dose you were taking before the next day. However, increase by half a grain (30mgs) only and see how you feel. Sheila Thanks for the replies, everyone! I'm convinced it's just that I need a bigger dose of Erfa.
