Try getting Ferrous Fumerate over the counter at the Chemist. Costs about £2.50

and most chemists stock it. (I think it is called Fersamol or similar). Sheila

usually suggests Ferrous Fumerate....Val

Ok, thanks for the suggestion Helen! Will see if I can find that online. I

like the Solgar products - let's hope it gets my levels up quickly!

I just started Ferrous Fumarate, very cheap from the chemist - you have to ask

for it, they don't stock it out on the shelves. However, my guts went rather

nasty yesterday (diarrhea) so I'm going to try a lower dose - one tablet a day

in two halves, for now. Each tablet is 210mg ferrous fumarate (68mg elemental

iron). If I can't tolerate that, I'll have to go and find some milder, weaker

alternative.

Remember also that it is VERY IMPORTANT to take high doses of

vitamin C when taking iron, e.g. 3/4000mgs daily with food.

Hi there,

I would highly recommend...Hemaplex by Nature's Plus...it is a fantastic iron

supplement with vitamin C and some complementary minerals..and B vitamins...

It is 'pricey' but worth it...

I had hair loss for 5 years post birth (lost alot of blood) and thanks to this

group...it was due to my low ferritin levels...(which I use to get tested but

thought was normal levels until I contacted this group, I realised my ferritin

levels were very low) after 5 years of hair loss my hair has stopped falling out

and thinning..all due to low ferritin...

and hemaplex did the trick ....

I hope this helps.

Dr P suggested Spatone (from the chemist) as it is gentle. You can take 2

sachets a day.

Thanks Lynne, that sounds like a better alternative. I'm seeing Dr. P myself in

10 days time, can't wait to hear his advice on everything!

The Solgar is on both Amazon and Ebay.

It is well absorbed and not constipating

Just to let you know, I'm finding it difficult to tolerate the ferrous fumarate,

unfortunately. The first day, I took 3 tablets and it really messed my guts up;

I scaled down, and yesterday, I only took half a tablet and was going to take

the other half, but my guts were still doing a rumba at dinner time so I didn't.

I think I'll have to find something milder.

It may be TMI, but just to forewarn you, it gave me diarrhea the first day and

since then, a gurgly and uncomfortable stomach.

The Solgar was better for me.

Start low and build over a week though

Are you making sure you take it with food Helen. You should not

take it on an empty stomach or one after you have just had a drink. It must be

full of food.
