Guest guest
Hi guys, so i have my next NHS endo appointment a week on monday. It will be my third appointment and the 2 previous ones have been very stressfull and the only reason im still going is that the endo wants to and is willing to do pretty much any tests that i need. My question is that the nurse who takes your BP/weight before each appointment then stays in the room with me throughout my whole consultation with the endo. Now i would like to ask to be alone with the endo and that the nurse leaves, would this be too rude to ask and would it even be allowed? My appointments are difficult enough as it is without some nurse sitting there giving me the rolling eyes whenever i diasgree with the doctor. Thanks guys Steve
Guest guest
Steve, I've usually seen the endo on my own, no nurse in the room. So it's obviously allowed. Whether it would be rude to ask her to leave or not.... well so what.... just be apologetic but firm... as in 'I'm sorry but your presence here is offputting so would you leave me to talk to Dr X on my own thank you.' and then wait for her to leave. Don't say anything else or you'll tie yourself in knots, you don't have to offer any other reason, you've already given her a reason. x > > Hi guys, so i have my next NHS endo appointment a week on monday. Guest guest
Your consultation should be between you and your specialist Steve. Don't get concerned about whether or not to ask the nurse to leave - this is a patients choice whether or not others stay in the room, even whether you wish trainee doctors to remain. Just ask the consultant if you could speak to him personally, on a one to one basis, without the presence of the nurse. She will go out of the room - no problem.
