Amiodarone and Thyroid

Hi, I wrote before Xmas about thinking that my husband needed a higher dose of

thyroxine because he is on Amiodarone and his thyroid function has been

compromised and he seemed so tired and cold always. Well at the time his T4 was

20 (12-22) and his TSH was 2.14( 0.3-4.2). So I asked our GP to do all the blood

tests (and she did them all too! I think we are lucky here in Brighton as the

path labs always seem to do the requested tests). Well, we went to GP to get the

results today and I am not surprised his 50mcg thyroxine doesn't seem to be

working. Here are the results:

FT4..18.2(12.22)

FT3...3.2(3.1-6.8)

TSH..3.21(0.3-4.2)

B12...187(197-866)

Serum Folate..4.7(4.6-18.7)

Ferritin...21(30-400)

Vit D..16(50-120)

Serum Copper..12 (11-20)

Serum Caeruloplasmin 194(220-400)....what's this?

Zinc...13 (11-24)

Magnesium is good.

He has a prescription for Ferrous Fumerate (1 a day seems a bit mean to me) and

some Vit D that I don't know how strong they are till I get them. GP wants to

test his Intrinsic Factor before starting him on B12.

So I'm not surprised he sleeps a lot and wears long s and a woolly hat in

summer.

I imagine that with his bloods he is not converting even 1mcg of thyroxine.

Silly thing says he feels fine but I think he has forgotten what fine is.
