Folate dose

My 5mg folate has just arrived from thailand (my dr and endo are very much 'it's

in range so that's that' people so I'd never have got 5mg on prescription).

My question is, can anyone suggest a good dosage to raise me to a decent level?

My last test in November put it at 7.7 (range 3-20), up from 7.2 in August.

I've been taking multivits/mins and a B-complex supp since August, but it's

clearly not been enough for that one.

Hopefully this is now the last deficiency to sort - my potassium was low but

I've upped the bananas and of course the multi-vits, B12, ferritin and D3 are

all good now.

I've never managed to get a test for copper and zinc but I'm looking into that,

I have had the little white spots in my nails which have cleared up in the past

with zinc supps and they have gone since taking the multi-vits. Anyone know any

signs for copper deficiency?

Thanks,

Niki

Niki,

5 mg seems quite a chunky dose..... I bought 400mcg's by Solgar over the

counter and it raised my folate levels pretty quickly..... they were miles

over range at the last test..... I only took one a day for a few months....

Copper is balanced by zinc. You can tell if you're short of zinc when you put

a zinc tablet in your mouth, if it tastes of nothing much you're short, if it

tastes horrible then you have enough.

The role of copper is to help your cells use the iron which is available in the

blood. If you have good iron levels but are still feeling tired and

aneamic then copper would need to be investigated.

Blue horizons can test copper, but it's £99.....
