Advice please? > Dear Helen, If you can contact PALS at your local PCT they may intercede to put your husband's case quoting the 'needs and wishes' of the patient and a participatory decision making process ~ indeed a joint process. Check out what the GMC says about a doctor's obligations~ Good Medical Practice best wishes Bob Dr Skinner was exonerated at his last FTP Review hearing (transcripts now available via Sheila ~ just reading through them ... )
Guest guest
Exactly the same happened to me. I was told they didn't take any notice of T3 and a point blank refusal for a referral to Dr. Skinner, even though I pointed out that I would be paying for this myself. I found another private doctor who didn't require a referral and who did take notice of the below range T3 and prescribed me T3. I spent a year or so with this doctor until we got the right dosage of T3 and Thyroxine for me and then I decided to stop seeing him and order Armour myself. Did he give you a reason why he would not refer to Dr. Skinner. Did he offer to refer your husband to an NHS endo? I know you can ask for a second opinion but do not know whether you can choose who you see. If you can choose, then would there be any reason why it cannot be Dr.Skinner, or alternatively one of the endo's on Sheila's list. LilianHe argued that his T3 was outside the range. Guest guest
Your husband should report this doctor to his local Primary Care Trust and send a copy of his letter to the Head of practice (if there is one as most are now 'partnerships'). This person is no doctor. TSH for a normal person should be around 1 Free T3 should be in the upper third of the reference range (this is the ACTIVE thyroid hormone your body cannot survive without) Free T4 should be above the middle of the reference range for anybody who is not taking thyroid hormone replacement. A high Free T4 in somebody not on medication can mean their thyroxine is pooling in the blood and not converting to the active T3 which shows in your husbands case, and the rising TSH shows this too. Vitamin D should not be below 50. Your husband should also write to this doctor asking her to respond to you in writing giving the reasons why she refuses to refer you to Dr Skinner and to let him know this within the next 7 working days. He should ask at the same time for reasons why she refuses to test iron, transferrin saturation$, ferritin, vitamin B12, folate, magnesium, copper and zinc. He should enclose with his letter the attached document showing references to the research/studies that have been done to show the connection between low levels of these specific nutrients and low thyroid. Hope this helps. Luv - Sheila My husband went back to the doctor tonight armed with advice from this forum. He went with his list of blood tests required. These are his private results: HBA1C 5.4 % 3.80 - 6.90 TSH 2.054 µU/ml 0.38 - 4.31 FT3 3.28 pmol/l- 3.50 - 6.50 FT4 16.63 pmol/l 11.50 - 22.70 25-OH-calciferol (D-vitamin, ligand assay) 31.6 ng/ml 20.00 - 120.00 He argued that his T3 was outside the range. Guest guest
Hi Lilian, Please could you message me privately and advise who the doctor was that helped you? I need to find a good private doctor as all this back and forth game with my GP is getting really depressingly frustrating! I don't mind where the doctor is, I'm happy to travel to feel healthy again. Thank you so much in advance, Anita > > I found another private doctor who didn't require a referral and who did > take notice of the below range T3 and prescribed me T3.
