Guest guest
I'm making 150 small 1.5 ounce jar candles tomarrow. I have 43 different scents. Gardening and making candles seems to be what I do now. Young
Guest guest
That's a lot of work doing up so many. Are you thinking of maybe starting up what some call a " cottage industry business " where you would make these candles available to consumers? And 43 different scents ... that's quite the variety to choose from. How did you learn to make them and do you use glass jars (or would glass become too hot and crack)? You really have me interested in what you're up to these days, . Raven > > I'm making 150 small 1.5 ounce jar candles tomarrow. Guest guest
Congrats. It's a cool site. All of the flavors look enticing and I'm just blown away that they're made out of soy. That's just great that you're doing something that's fun and shipping orders out to customers already. I'll have to make an order for the holidays. It does not sell any thing yet, Don't Eat The Candles! It's #1 on MSN for homemade candles the keyphrase. I am trying to get top 3 for "scented candles" the keyphrase on msn, and goodle. Guest guest
The only way you can do that is by emailing, you would be the first. The site gets several thousand visitors, I have interacted with them. Just I am not ready to sell online. Most people have been local but they are addicted to them, they like them. Scented candles all year around, fudge browney! nick <drumthis2001@...> wrote: Congrats. It's a cool site. All of the flavors look enticing and I'm just blown away that they're made out of soy. Guest guest
, I think it is great what you are doing. Good luck with the business. Tom Administrator I am starting to do teal ights next month as samples. People like my candles allot and I will have around 150 plus special order scents availible by the 3rd month of next year. It is morel ike a luxury service where I am a candler and people order the candles. They are highly scented and personally I never smelled candles so good, they are the strongest possible. Guest guest
Currently I am making peach pie filling candles. There is only one left of those from the last batch and it is a great scent. For gourmet I use the best scents I can get which are a bit more expensive, expecially in the per unit cost ratio. I am trying to get over 100 to choose from. There will be bakery and sweets, floral and a designer series of mixed scents and speciality scents. > > , > > I think it is great what you are doing. Guest guest
I'd imagine you could sell your stuff to health stores as a healthy alternative to other candles since they are made with soy wax and these certain essential oils. I mean, you'd be getting a steady income from it. The ones sold at the health stores today are the same thing and all they have are ornamental ribbons and a circular card that explains the ingredients and so forth. I figure besides the internet there are other avenues of demand since you're working with bulk quantities. <nathaninfortuna@...> wrote: Currently I am making peach pie filling candles. Guest guest
The wax is all natural but the scented oil is not. From what I know it is hard to get essencial oils to work in candles. However there are some, certainly not bakery or sweets, something like lavender. Essencial oil candles are for a micro-industry which is called auromatherepy. I planed on getting into that and have already sourced suppliers for essencial oils. They are VERY expensive and so the candles will be expensive as well. Guest guest
Your candles sound very interesting , sound like some great smells :-) When I've bought scented candles in the past I have found they smell great, but when I light them they do not seem to produce the scent they smell of - I wonder why this is. > > Currently I am making peach pie filling candles. Guest guest
There has to be enough oil being heated and oil emited into the air compared to the melted wax. The ones I make, at least the ones I have tried all seem to do fairly well with making a rooms air scented. People who usually like scented candles but want more scent in the air tend to graduate to the oil burners and wax tarts. greebohere <julie.stevenson16@...> wrote: Your candles sound very interesting , sound like some great smells :-)When I've bought scented candles in the past I have found they smell great, but when I light them they do not seem to produce the scent they smell of - I wonder why this is. . Guest guest
Well , I can tell you since Yankee stopped making there Honeysuckle wax tart I haven't been able to find a good one. They now make a sweet honeysuckle, its too sweet for me. I am alergic to a lot of smells but love candles and wax tarts, but the smells have to be food inspired or fresh flower inspired or they make me sneeze, even some of the ones I just mentioned, I can't wait to try some of your candles, how do we go about ordering, send you an e-mail or a letter with check or what?. I would like to get a few to try, definately Honeysuckle if you come up with one, I know with you aspie nose I shouldn't have a problem with it. Thanks, Beth Co-administrator <nathaninfortuna@...> wrote: Currently I am making peach pie filling candles. There is only one left of those from the last batch and it is a great scent. Guest guest
, I love scented candles! Scents are associated with places or people and for me honeysuckle ( Moms Avon perfume that my cousin overused by smearing an entire jar on herself), lilac (the bush outside my bedroom window/springtime), lily of the valley ( my Grandmother's home) and wild rose (the path through the forest preserve next to my childhood home) let my mind wander back to my youth. My sister likes the candles with the food scents but they tend to make me want to eat something sweet. I had found a scented candle once that I adored and used too quickly. When I went back to buy another the company no longer made it. I believe it had Ylang Ylang, Mimosa, and possibly Jasmine and the effect it had on me was ultra calming, relaxed, and happy. Do you make any candles with these oils? Good luck with the business. Kim

Guest guest
Ylang ylang is really nice :-) using it in my oil burner here at mo'. I don't find it too expensive to purchase here (England, under £5 anyways) and is an essential oil, so a little goes a long way :-) I must admit to quite liking Jasmine too, but prefer it natural as in when my Jasmine plant flowers, which for some reason is not every year :-( but wonderful when it does, highly scented little white flowers :-) Night scented stock is quite nice too. Amazing the affect of scents on people and all the connections that go with them :-) > > All the scents you mentioned I can get and plan to. Guest guest
I wanted to know more about ylang ylang and found out why I might enjoy the scent so much. It is the scent of Chanel No.5 perfume, my mother's favorite and most often worn perfume. Why I didn't make the connection before is beyond me. Guest guest
Please check the information on boxes of scented candles. After I had a bad reaction to some I lit I read " MAY PRODUCE AN ALLERGIC REACTION " Too late for me,but as we all do our best to move towards better health, this is a toxic load we can do without. These candles contain( 2-Benzyldeneoctanal, 3-Phenylprop-2-1-ol) phenolic aromatic ketonether Next time I just open the window for fresh air and wait till Spring to smell the sweet peas. best regards J.Sandbach
Guest guest
Scented stuff (including people!) is a bane of my life and made working in an office really unpleasant. I tend to get an asthmatic cough response and irritated airways, from many fragrances. Morning commutes are also unpleasant for that reason, as everyone has freshly applied their perfume, aftershave, shower gel, scented lotions, hairspray, etc etc. I look forward to an enlightened day when everything isn't full of strongly scented chemicals! Few of these substances have been safety tested other than for contact rash. Though, natural scents can have the same effect on my airways - sweet peas and highly scented mini-daffodils or hycacinths, stargazer lillies - I can't have them in the house. > > Please check the information on boxes of scented candles. After I had a bad reaction to some I lit I read " MAY PRODUCE AN ALLERGIC REACTION "
Guest guest
My daughter gave me a large scented candle that crackles and flickers giving the effect of a log fire, but with it comes a perfume of cinnamon and ginger. As soon as I took the lid off the top of the tin, the smell almost knocked me into Kingdom Come - or Gone as in this case. I didn't know I had allergies to anything, but I had to put the lid back on and open the windows and doors as my chest became immediately effected and I started coughing almost uncontrollably. If anybody would like this candle, you are very welcome. However, I threw the box out and there is nothing written on the very pretty tin about the contents. It had the same effect as Joss-sticks, which I cannot stand. Guest guest
Hi, I read ages ago that joss sticks (inscense sticks) are known to be carcinogenic. Best to just open the windows really. The uncontrollable coughing and sneezing is what happens to me when I get in a shop full of new clothes. It means I can only clothes shop for about 10 minutes, then I have to leave. In my case I suspect that it is formaldehyde which is used in the dying process on some fabrics, to prevent pilling (little bobbles)..... .
