Guest guest
I always get copies of letters written by endo to my GP and vice versa. The endo does it automatically now, when he dictates the letter he says to send a copy to me. Mind you he probably watches what he says now Lilian When i was in the doctors i asked had my endo refered me as i hadnt heard anything in over a month, and the lady brought all my notes up on the computer, and i could see about 5 pages of notes from my endo to my gp. SO cheakily i asked " can i get a copy of those please " and the receptionist said " oh i will have to ask the doctor " - So i was just wondering if i have a chance or if they are strictly between doctor and dcotor. Guest guest
> as one specialist cant refer to another. His words. > One specialist can refer to another. My endo referred me to a haematologist at the same hospital. Didn't get me anywhere, but it was definitely a consultant to consultant referral. I think you are being fobbed off there. So i was just wondering if i have a chance or if they are strictly between doctor and dcotor. I think you'll find you'd be able to get those if you went for full disclosure of your medical notes (and paid the fee) but you won't be able to get them like you get copies of your blood test results. > > Thanks > Steve >

Guest guest
You are entitled to ANY and ALL information that is in your medical notes under The Date Protection Act 1998 Steve. No doctor is allowed to withhold any such information at all. Yes, you are entitled to a copy of the fully letter your endocrinologist sent to your GP. Best to apply for this in writing to keep it properly official. Guest guest
They certainly can. I was under the endo regarding my diabetes but my thyroid took up too much time and he considered a bit more complicated so he referred me to the dedicated endocrine clinic to sort my thyroid. In fact it is only another consultant that can refer to that department, not a GP. GP has to refer to the general endo of the hospital, who deals with diabetes, and it is only he who decides whether the case needs referred to the endocrine clinic. Funnily enough it so happens that he was also the endo of the other department, so I saw him at one hospital with his diabetes hat on and at another hospital with his endo hat on Lilian > as one specialist cant refer to another. His words.
Guest guest
So he lied to me to take the easy way out or i dont see any other explenation? His very words i cannot refer you myself to a specialst, it has to go through your gp. (i now have my gp appointment on thursday 1 month after my endo appointment) It would be an endo refering to a gastrologist, but now it looks like my gp is going to refer me. Guest guest
I think it needs a referral from your GP - I doubt an endocrinologist could bypass your GP Steve, but I stand to be corrected.
