Guest guest
I wonder if any of you would share your thoughts on my daughters blood results. She was diagnosed Hypothyroid approx 15 months ago after having her 2nd baby. She suspects she started symptoms after her first daughter was born 4 years ago. When she was diagnosed her TSH was over 200.. She is on Levothyroxine, and has had minor improvement . Her current dose is 50mcg.. She was told to increase to 75, after which she started to have palpitations, so she was put back on 50. At present she is experiencing bad migraines, night sweats, always tired, and she would agree that she is very emotional and feels that she is not coping as well as she used to. She has given me her test results which are as follows. January 2012 TSH. 1.3. range 0.3. 4.5 T4. 19. ''. ''. 10. 22 T3. 4.5. " . " . 3.1. 6.8 ESR 14. 1. 10 NOV 2011 TSH 1.5 T4 16 T3. 3.9. Range all as above AUG. 2011 TSH. 1.9 T4. 17 JUNE. 2011 TSH. 1.5 T4 16 No T3 tested on the 2 early tests. Ranges all same as all done at local labs. I have encouraged her to join this group, and have shown her info on supplements, Etc. her doctor seems reluctant to try her with a little T3, and she does not see an endocrinologist. I read alot on these boards, and don't want her to be suffering unnecessarily for years. Many thanks. Marilyn.
Guest guest
Hi Marilyn She really needs to be referred to a specialist as her GP does not appear to be competent enough to look after her as he should. Her free T4 is rising, which is often an indication that it is not converting to the active thyroid hormone T4 and is laid in the blood doing nothing. What she might be best doing is writing a letter to her GP and asking for this to be placed into her medical notes. She should list her present symptoms and signs (check these in our web site www.tpa-uk.org.uk under Hypothyroidism. She should ask him for a referral to an endocrinologist to see whether s/he would give her a trial of T3 in combination with her T4 because raising her T4-only only gave her symptoms of thyroxine toxicity. She may not be able to tolerate T4-only and this is what is causing her present symptoms. She should refer him back to her November test where her free T3 was right at the bottom of the reference range, when it should be in the upper third of the range and also her latest free T3 where it is still showing too low. She should ask to be referred as a matter of urgency if her GP is not willing to help her. Luv - Sheila She was diagnosed Hypothyroid approx 15 months ago after having her 2nd baby.
