Guest guest
I was also wondering how much it costs to see him? Is it over £100? I'm just a poor student but am literally at my wits end - I'm in my final year at uni and struggling terribly... I've been suffering with pretty debilitating breathlessness/chestpain/nausea/exhaustion for over a year now, and I'm getting worse - last 2 weeks I've been bedridden - can't move around much due to breathless, HEAVY chest - whole body is very heavy and weak. I've finally found some solid medical journals that support breathing issues and hypo, but they say that with treatment, it should resolve. Well I've been on levothyroxine for 11 months now and NO symptoms have improved (I've been taking all the vitamins and done the tests this group recommends but am OK in those respects. Also, all my blood tests are now in range). Doctors and endos keep fobbing me off and I just think Dr S may be the only one to listen to and help me. Do you think I should go see him? I live near to where he practices, too.
Guest guest
I believe it is £180 to see Dr Skinner - but it would be worth every penny. Read the information here about breathing problems http://www.drlowe.com/jcl/comentry/breathingproblems.htm .. If you are not converting the inactive thyroid hormone thyroxine into the active thyroid hormone T3, I am afraid that no amount of treatment with T4-only is going to help you. Have you answered the questions in The Adrenal Questionnaire. if not, go to our FILES SECTION and check out the 'Adrenal' Folder, and go through the questions to see if this could be a problem. Many suffer with low adrenal reserve and unless treated, thyroid hormone cannot be properly utilised at the cellular level. Unfortunately, NHS doctors are not taught about this, only about 's Disease or Cushing's Syndrome. Read the information in the Adrenal Folder. Guest guest
Thank you Sheila. My TFTs indicate that I am converting T4 to T3 - as my T3 has risen. But I'm still ill, so I'm guessing my cells just aren't taking it up. I took the Genova adrenal test too - which seemed to indicate that I was OK. So yes I think seeing Dr Skinner will be my best option - I can't carry on like this any longer.
Guest guest
Hi i think you'd be right to see Dr Skinner, he should be able to help you. Have you had vitamins and minerals checked, including ferritin, vitamin A, vitamin D, copper, magnesium, etc etc? I could not tolerate hardly any thyroid hormone until i was started on dhea, pregnenolone, vitamin A, copper, vitamin D, iron, and probably one or two others i've forgotten. Candida - in my experience - can impede thyroid hormone absorption. have you had other hormones like sex hormones checked? chris > > Thank you Sheila. Guest guest
Hi thanks for the message.. I've had vit D, ferritin, folate and B12 checked - i've struggled trying to get GPs to do the others! folate and B12 are fine. vit D was low but i've got that up high now. ferritin was also low and have been taking iron tablets (of my own volition) for a few months but GPs won't do another test. How did you beat your candida? I did the candida test last year and it came out fairly high-ish, but as I'm underweight and lack appetite as it is I've struggled to stick to any sort of diet.. Re sex hormones - I'm only 21 - would it be worth checking these? Anyway I'm really quite ill at the moment (sleeping just 2-3 hours a night the past week) - bedridden. I have an appt with Dr Skinner next Friday. Can't wait. Thanks so much for the advice, Jess > > Hi > > i think you'd be right to see Dr Skinner, he should be able to help you.
