Hi low thyroid with out treatment causes the baby to be to small and arrive to early. hashimoto`s causes the baby to have learning problems as this is the result of the auto-antibodies attack on the thyroid (low T3) and any other auto-antibodies will cause learning problems to the baby. with treatment and selenium the baby will be the right weight and size of a normal pregnancy. the baby will need thyroid hormones to help it grow. hence the extra medicineit is usual to increase by 50% over the 9 months on a sliding scale and only reduce slowly to original dose once postpartum.
