Guest guest
Anyone else had problems registering? I tried 2x with 2 different email addresses and screen names (as it won't let me do it again with the first one and I didn't receive the email or could log in with the details I registered). I waited, checked junk folder, but nothing. Emailed them and awaiting answer. I saw some of your emails there (recognised the screen names) so I know it can be done :-) Anita x > > > Dear Member > > > If you would like to take part in a serious Question and Answer Session > about thyroid (or thyroid related) problems, 'NHS Choices' has arranged > an open Question and Answer session, hosted by the 'Talkhealth' forum on > 25 to 31 February 2012. Guest guest
I did and still couldn't get on, but then I found the email confirmation from the forum had been delivered into my Junk Mail. I then just clicked on the confirmation link they sent and I was straight through. Felt a bit of an idiot really. Check your junk mail and see if it is there. Guest guest
I smell a rat! All the posts are locked and you can't comment on posts or create new posts. I wonder if they didn't get the reaction or type of questions they wanted! This is what the administrator has put up: Thank you for all your pre-clinic questions about thyroid disorders. Due to the very high volume of questions posted ahead of the opening of the clinic, we have taken the decision to lock the forum until Wednesday 25 January when the experts will be available to answer the questions already posted, and any new questions you may have. All questions originally posted in this 'Pre-Clinic Questions' topic have been moved into individual topics of their own. Thank you all for your participation so far and we look forward to seeing you all in the forum again next week. Remember your questions will not be answered by the experts until Wednesday 25 January. Interesting as there are only 31 posts - how is that too many?? It's a worry if they can't cope with more than 31 questions!!! > > they have closed the questions page!!!! >

Guest guest
Well Janet, didn't we just know it - they have obviously been inundated with questions. Perhaps that alone will be sufficient for the organisers to realise there is a great big problem out there, otherwise, if everybody was doing well under the recommendations laid down by the RCP, BTA et al. and our doctors/endocrinologists were treating us well and giving us back our optimal health, there would be no need for so many questions, or indeed, no need for local and Internet thyroid support groups that people are joining out of desperation to get the support and help they need. Well done everybody who has participated - or tried to participate. Luv - Sheila http://www.talkhealthpartnership.com/forum/index.php they have closed the questions page!!!! Guest guest
Problem is, are all the questions going to be answered by way of the present BTA diagnosing and treatment protocol - because if they are, this is going to be a complete waste of time and energy on behalf of everybody. Doctors are too scared to say what they want, even those who are on the executive committee of the BTA because it is well known that their statements, as far as doctors are concerned, are mandatory, and if they do not comply with their recommended protocols, they will be marked men/women! Me being cynical would bet that each member of the team has been asked not to step outside of the BTA protocol and questions on e.g. TSH will be referred to the BTA Guideline on Thyroid Function Tests or to the RCP recent Statement on the Diagnosis and Management of Primary Hypothyroidism or other guidelines/guidance/statements. They cannot afford to lose face, so I am expecting little to nothing but lots of more of the usual rubbish not backed up with scientific evidence. However, we need to gather all their answers so we can study these at a later date otherwise, when the topic has closed, they may all be lost. Luv - Sheila I smell a rat! Guest guest
I have posted my question in the section asking for suggestions for other subjects, since I will be unable to access a computer during the given time. That is if they bother to open up the forum again anyway!! Can't really see what they can discuss anyway with the present regime in control, its just test the TSH and dole out the T4 if the numbers say so. Well a monkey could do that so why or how they become professors with that level of education would be interesting to know about. In fact the whole medical profession has sunk to a level of drug pushing without any input from the grey cells, perhaps they are over fluoridated too - LOL !!!!! Guest guest
I think we should wait and see exactly what they will answer and check their answers against the BTA recommended diagnosing and management protocol and the BTA guidelines on TFT's. If it is shown to be a complete waste of time and space, perhaps we should advertise this on our web site. However, you never know, they may do a complete about turn, bring the TSH down to 0.3 to 3.0, start treating using T4, T3 and natural thyroid extract and start testing all those specific minerals and vitamins that they don't appear to know about that stop thyroid hormone from working if any of these are low. Boy! it could be a glorious week. Luv - Sheila I just went on to post my question and found it locked! Obviously they're not getting the " right type " of questions. Typical NHS!!!! Guest guest
Hi Sheila Have just joined this Talk-health on-line thyroid clinic. It appears to be linked to NHS CHOICES which I already belonged to, so I presume one might have to join both. However like you all they are not accepting any more questions, so I visited THE EXPERTS, so SHEILA, do you know any of them, and are they in fact experts. Guest guest
Well Kathleen, it appears that even 'Meeting the Experts' is now locked because I can't get there either. However, from what I remember, there was Professor Lazarus who seems to have a mind of his own. I always imagined him to be six foot, broad, lots of thick black hair and a beard and wearing heavy glasses. I think this image remains in my mind because I telephoned him one morning about something he had said, and this really gruff voice answered back. He said " Do you know what hour this is - you woke me up " . I was almost shaking in my shoes, I thought it was 9.15a.m. and thought that was reasonable, but guess what, it turned out it was the day that the clocks had been turned back an hour, so I was phoning him at 8.15. I apologised, and cannot remember now whether I asked him the question or not. Anyway, seeing his picture shocked me, not a bit like that - but I don't think I liked him. Dr Colin Dayan I have spoken to on the telephone and went down to Bristol to meet him at the University. Bob and I went to see him to show him the full results of our Hypothyroid Patient Survey where it shows 78.4% people said they had not got back their optimal health since starting levothyroxine-only treatment, amongst other results. He is a lovely, lovely man and I feel he is very strongly on our side, but he has to work with the RCP and BTA. Can't really comment about how he will respond, but whenever I write to him asking him questions, he always gives me very honest answers. He is also aware of our Register of Counterexamples of those who remain with symptoms on T4-only, but whose symptoms were mitigated or went away when starting T3. Could be interested. Can't remember the other names off hand, and brain getting tired, so signing off for the evening to get some R and R. If anybody else remembers who the others are, let me know.
