Guest guest
Marcia, started on 20mg Prozac about 2 1/2 weeks ago. The only other med she takes regularly is Claritin. If I were to take her off the Prozac, should I do it cold turkey or gradually, one pill every other day for a few days before stopping completely? As for rest, is taking care of that, sleeping more than I've seen her do in a long time. Also, she has no appetite. I've had to make her nibble on a few crackers just to get something into her. She's not drinking much either. I hope she doesn't dehydrate. Guest guest
Hi April, You might want to make sure she is not having a reaction to the Prozac. That stuff can give one " false " energy which has a big price to pay in the end, with a CRASH! I have reacted to many supplements and meds with dizziness too so you might reconsider everything she is taking right now and see if that could be it. Other than that, you KNOW the routine, REST, REST, REST. Hope she snaps out of it very quickly! Guest guest
April, the 20 mg. may be too high...instead of taking her off cold turkey, try reducing the dose slowly and you may find a better level. Gail
Guest guest
Hi April, When I tried Prozac I lost about 10 lbs the first month, it can be one of the side effects. I also started on 20 mg and am probably TWICE her weight (hate to admit :-)) I can't give you medical advice of course, so you might want to check with the Doc. You are right about antidepressants tho, you are supposed to wean off them, but if she started at 20mg per day all at once one would wonder. Maybe try every other day for a few doses then stop? Us CFSers are notorious for not being able to tolerate a full dose of most meds and April is so young to be on the full adult dose anyway (20mg). I had some gelatin caps I used to split it into 10mg caps, but I didn't even do well on that and just gave it up. Can you get a hold of her Doc to see what he would advise ?(altho sometimes even they aren't aware of CFSers low med tolerance) I also know the old classes of antidepressants did not mix AT ALL with the old allergy meds, so maybe the two are reacting to each other as well, even tho these are both fairly new classes of drugs. You might want to try stopping the Claritin instead. Just food for thought, I'm no med expert, just speaking from problems I have had myself with these types of meds. Good luck! Guest guest
Is it to be expected to still crash until you've reached you're optimal dose? I've worked my way up to 2 1/2 grains and still crash and in bed not functioning for up to 10. Days. I'm worried it's not going to work for me. That's not good, have you had an adrenal saliva test?? Nick
Guest guest
It might be there's something else not right, such as adrenal function, or other deficiencies.
