Guest guest
Hi everyone. I'm starting to feel like a plate spinner with all this trying to get everything balanced! I have Hashimoto's and I've been taking NAX and NDT since last March, with fabulous results initially. Then, my NDT seemed to stop working so well. So I've upped the dose gradually and I'm now on 240mgs of Erfa (I think that's 4 grains) per day. I've had no palpitations or any adverse reactions on that dose but I still don't feel it's working. I take my temps several times every day and they range from 36.4 degs c in the morning to 35.1 mid-afternoon. I am so fed up of feeling cold and achey and lethargic, despite my raised NDT dose, I am putting weight on again and am now nine pounds heavier than I was six months ago. I don't think I have Candida but have been drinking lots of Pau D'Arco tea just in case. I have ordered some tests for Free T3 and 4 and TSH, and adrenal insufficiency tests so, hopefully, that will shed some light on what's going on. I have read that varying low temps throughout the day can be a sign of adrenal fatigue. I have been taking 1 NAX a day and I wonder if I should lessen the NDT dose and take more NAX for my adrenals. The question I want to ask is how much NAX can I safely take a day? I am so grateful for all the time Sheila and Lilian take with this website. I do not know what I'd have done if I hadn't found it! Many thanks, JUlie McGowan
Guest guest
Are you taking Selenium 200mcgs daily with food, and high doses of vitamin C (2/3000mgs daily), vitamin B complex and other supplements. This sounds adrenal related. Don't bother the NHS to get your adrenal function tested, they ONLY test to see if you have 's disease (too little to no cortisol secretion) or Cushing's Syndrome (too high a level of cortisol secretion). You need to get the 24 hour salivary adrenal profile done to check your levels of cortisol and DHEA secretion at four specific times during the day. Go to our Files section accessible from the Home Page of this forum. Scroll down the list until you come to the folder entitled 'Discounts on Tests and Supplements' and then open the Genova Diagnostics file and order from there, remembering to mention that Thyroid Patient Advocacy is your practitioner. they will send the results direct too you, and when you receive them, post them on the forum together with the reference ranges. Once we have the results, we will know which way to go. You can take up to 6 NAX daily, but if you are still suffering symptoms then, perhaps you need a short course of HC. You start with taking 1 NAX with breakfast. In a couple of weeks, you can add another, but take this one with lunch and don't take any after 1.00p.m. If needed, you can carry on increasing in this way until you reach the dose where you start to feel much better, and then stick with that dose. We do recommend when starting, that you stop the thyroid hormone replacement for 7 days, and take NAX on its own, and on the 8th day, to start back on your thyroid hormone. Guest guest
Thanks for your answer Sheila. I take 1000mg vit c in the morning with NAX. I take apple cider vinegar 3 times a day. I take a spatone at lunchtime with orange juice. I also take selenium, a further 2000mgs of vit c, zinc, Q10, Eve Prim Oil, Omega 3, acidophilus, bromelaine, magnesium, B12 and D3 all in one go at bedtime. All are brands people have recommended in this website. I find that I react really badly to stress or confrontation, almost to the point where I feel my heart's going to burst and I'm filled with a feeling of utter dread! I don't know if this is connected to my adrenals. It's such a flipping shame as I was a teacher for 21 years and I loved the job (although it was increasingly very stressful!) and I've always been very fit and active. I'm a keen rock climber and long-distance walker and I've had to really cut these back as I no longer have the energy. The tests I've ordered are through a female doctor you included in the private doctors list you sent me. Thanks for your help.
