Guest guest
Hi, I am an Australian woman retired and living in Panama. I recently had an independent test in the States and my Reverse T3 works out at a ratio of 8. As this was after an extremely stressful time and I was not supporting my adrenals properly this could be the reason for the result. Now I am taking 25mg HC and resting and trying to be calm - is it possible for the RT3 to get better? I have read so much on the RT3 Forum and they say you need T3only. I am finding it very hard to obtain here but still trying. Then I read a website that sounded really reasonable contradicting the theory that RT3 gets into the cells and prevents T3 getting in. What worries me is that I have to travel very bad roads here and they say its not if you have an accident it is " when " ! and I worry about being unconscious and not being administered T3. (My Spanish not good) So when I finally obtain T3 would it be better to take it with my normal Erfa tablet which contains T4? Even if it is not the best thing in some opinions, if I did that and my temperature is normal would it be ok? My TSH .004. (many years on NTH) T4 9 (4.9-11.7) T3 Uptake .8. (.7-1.2) Free thyroxine Index 11.3 (5-12) Hemoglobin 14 Hematocrit 41.4 T4 Free 1.55 (.70-1.48) T3 1.3 (.6-1.6) Reverse T3 552 (90-350) TPO 6 (0-34) Antithyroglobulin 20 (0-40) Triiodothyronine, Free, Serum 4.39 (1.71-3.71) Thanks Toni
Guest guest
Hi Toni, Just found this - Sheila directed me. I think rT3 can be picked on too much as the cause of all issues. Reverse T3 is a natural hormones designed for a number of reasons including the natural clearance of T4. It will interfere with the action of thyroid hormones if it is present in excess. However, so many other things can interfere with the action of thyroid hormones. Often is is almost impossible to work out whether an elevated rT3 is the cause of problems or not. Personally, I think the emphasis has been placed far too much on rT3 these days. There are also some really stupid notions associated with it. One of these ideas is that reverse T3 takes a while to clear up - like some kind of infection! RT3 is being dynamically created and removed all the time. Once you are on new meds (like HC) then if there is going to be some improvement then it should occur fairly quickly - not over a period of weeks. I think if you have already given this some weeks and your issues have been going on a long time then it is about time you combined some T3 with your Erfa to see if this helped - certainly that's the type of approach that many people use. If you do this then try to use two - four small doses of T3 per day (5 mcg per dose may be a good starting place, before considering moving one or more to 7.5mcg. If your labs get too out of whack according to your doctor then you could cut the Erfa a little but don't just cut it out. The trick with a T4/T3 combo therapy is to explore the T3 dosage thoroughly before dropping the T4 element a little and then repeating the process with T3 - systematically. You could also consider trying one of your T3 doses very early in the morning using a technique I've called the Circadian T3 Method - this may help your adrenal function also. Guest guest
Thanks so much for your brilliant reply which makes so much sense. I should have mentioned that I have lost about 18lbs in the last year. I was on 1 thyrold gold a day which kept my temp at 36.4cel (until I switched to Erfa since I found out about the RT3). Now my temps are only 36 more or less and I am so air hungry and sighing. I have been trying so hard to get a Dr here in Panama to understand I need T3 only but to no avail. I dont know if it is even available in this country. I have ordered from the Mexican Drug store but it might take several weeks to come. I should also mention that I have moved to living at an altitude of just under 6000ft which might have some bearing on cause of RT3? Would love to read your book so will have to order it. There is a special courier mailbox service here as no postal system at all. Everything takes so long. I have read all your files on this site. Very interesting.
