The human body is a wonderful living machine with a series

of cycles or rhythms as evidenced by the functions of the

heart, lungs, and so forth. From the tiniest of cells to the

major organs, there are functions that take place in regular

patterns.

Among the natural patterns of the body are three different

types of physiological changes that affect our behavior.

These built-in patterns are known as biorhythms; and the

three individual cycles are identified as the physical

cycle, the emotional cycle, and the intellectual cycle.

Biorhythms have a strong influence on the rise and fall of

our energy levels, as well as fluctuations in our interests,

moods, abilities, susceptibility to accidents, and our sense

of well-being. Biorhythms are based on our date of birth and

are set into motion the moment we are born.

Biorhythms don't predict any specific events, but they do

provide a type of forecast letting us know when we are most

likely to be at our best. Biorhythms help us by letting us

know when we should use our full potential to take advantage

of our favorable days, and when it might be best to limit

certain activities and use more caution.

It is best to look at a biorhythm chart as you read this

article. So, print the article and then do a search using

the search terms " biorhythms " or " biorhythm chart. " There

are several good sites on the Internet where you can find

free charts. Just enter your date of birth and the site

will display your biorhythm chart.

The physical cycle lasts for 23 days, the emotional cycle

lasts for 28 days, and the intellectual cycle lasts for 33

days. Each cycle has two phases; one positive, one negative,

with each phase lasting half as long as the complete cycle.

In general, the positive phase is when we have more energy

and are more likely to be at our best at activities related

to that particular cycle. During the negative phase our

energy is usually a little lower and it can take more effort

to do things as well as we do them on our favorable days.

The 23-day physical cycle influences physical strength,

stamina, speed, coordination, bodily functions, resistance

to disease, and a sense of physical well-being.

The 28-day emotional cycle affects our moods, mental health,

sensitivity, creative insights, how we react to others, and

our perceptions of the world and ourselves.

The 33-day intellectual cycle has an impact on alertness,

memory, the logical and analytical functions of the mind,

how quickly we learn new things, and how well we remember

what we have already learned.

There is usually influence from more than one biorhythm

cycle. For example, a recreational activity can involve the

physical and the emotional cycles. Important decisions

often involver both the intellectual and the emotional

cycles.

Most things can be done at any time, but we can usually do

it better and get more out of it when the cycles related to

an activity are in the positive phase.

There could be times when the transition from one phase to

the next may be rather subtle. In fact, unless you know the

position of your cycles by looking at your chart, you may

not be aware of the changes. However, do not underestimate

the importance of biorhythms and the impact they can have

on your life.

Whenever a cycle crosses the baseline, changing from one

phase to the next, it is known as a critical day. This is

the time when we are most vulnerable and therefore, the

time to be most cautious.

When an accident does happen, it happens on a critical day

more often than any other time. You can reduce errors and

accidents by just being aware of your critical days and

using extra caution.

A critical day in the physical cycle is when we are more

likely to catch a cold, have some sort of mishap, or suffer

some type of bodily harm.

A critical day in the emotional cycle may bring on arguments

or quarrels, frustration, or feelings of sadness/depression.

A critical day in the intellectual cycle could result in

poor decisions, poor judgment, difficulty in expressing

yourself, or a decreased ability to learn or remember.

Okay, now that the basics of biorhythms have been covered,

let's look at the best time to lose weight or quit smoking.

Your ability to lose weight is better when you start your

diet during a positive phase of the physical cycle, with no

critical days in any cycle for at least the next 8 days.

Also, try to find a period of time when there are several

weeks when the critical days of the different cycles are

not grouped close together.

Whether you count calories, use diet pills, or use hypnosis,

your diet can be more successful when you start it at the

right time. We are more likely to " pig out " and fill up on

junk food or eat too many sweets on a critical day in the

physical cycle. A few sweets or a little junk food now and

then is okay for most of us, but we tend to let it get out

of hand at times.

Awareness of our biorhythms is important to having a good

diet and eating healthy.

The best time to quit smoking is 2 days after the emotional

cycle goes into a positive phase. You have almost two weeks

before the cycle hits another critical day, when you are

most vulnerable and unstable, which means your ability to

avoid temptation is lower. However, by that time, you have

been a non-smoker for almost two weeks and you have gotten

through the worst of it. It also helps if the intellectual

and physical cycles are in a positive phase, at least for

the first few days after you quit smoking.

Whether you quit smoking by using a patch, gum, or hypnosis,

you have a better chance of success by doing it when your

biorhythms are more favorable.

It takes willpower and determination to lose weight or to

quit smoking. Give yourself an extra advantage by doing

things at the right time, when things are more favorable.

Biorhythms helped me quit smoking, which is something that I

thought I would never be able to do.

Use biorhythms to find the best time to do certain things;

the results may surprise you!
