Guest guest
Hi All, Happy New Year to my fellow Thyroidians and here's hoping for better health in 2012! I am wondering if any of you are taking Acella desiccated thyroid? I ordered some a few months back but did not do particularly well on it and went back to taking Cynomel T3. I have now run out of Cynomel and can no longer pay for it myself.Tried to make an appointmentment to see GP today to try and get her to prescribe Liothyronine T3.First available appointment? The 27th of January. How's that for taking the p***? It is always the same when I have to resort to the begging bowl.I get so anxious about having to deal with my GP surgery.I have not been for years...but now financially things are worse than ever and I have no option. Anyway..I digress. As I still have Acella left I am considering taking it again in the interim until I find out if I can get T3 on the NHS.For those of you that are taking it can you share your dosing schedule and what works best for you and also let me know if it is resolving your Hypo symptoms at all? Thanks for any input. Peary
Guest guest
Hi Peary Have you considered writing a letter to your GP with your request for T3 rather than visiting the surgery, which I know can be very stressful? That way you can take your time at home deciding what to include in the letter - plus there's no chance for the GP to derail the conversation by interrupting you at any point (which so often happens during face-to-face consultations!). This would then remain on your medical record for future reference, if necessary. Gill > Hi All, am wondering if any of you are taking Acella desiccated thyroid? Guest guest
Hi Peary, I am sure that I have mentioned this before but why don't you write a very short letter to your doctor and post it so you don't have a face to face confrontation. Tell her straight that since taking levothyroxine-only and still suffering continuing symptoms, and because you were not appearing to be taken seriously, you decided the only option left open to you was to self treat using the active thyroid hormone T3, after you did the necessary research and found that thyroxine was not an active hormone and that it needed to convert to T3 in the liver, kidneys and other thyroid hormone receptors. Tell her that you are obviously one of the large minority of sufferers who needed T3, and not T4. Tell her that you have been having to purchase this yourself from Internet Pharmacies and that you would like to now have this prescribed by the NHS as it is in the British National Formulary as an alternative thyroid hormone and that it says doctors can prescribe from 20 to 60mcgs. Tell her that if she feels unable to prescribe this because she knows little about it, that you wish for a referral to an NHS endocrinologist, but preferably one who treats using some form of T3. Tell her that your present stock of T3 is about to run out and you cannot afford to buy it anymore and that you are desperate for the thyroid hormone your body is crying out for and ask if she will please write a prescription for you. After all, whatever happens, it cannot be any worse than what is happening to you right now, but it is always best to be up front with your doctor and give them the facts. As for natural thyroid extract - check our Files section of this forum, and click on the Folder 'Natural Thyroid Extract' and you will find a document in that folder entitled 'How to Use Thyroid Extract'. Remember that what works for one, doesn't mean it is going to work for you. We are all individuals. However, if it wasn't working for you before, consider that you might have one of the many associated conditions that stop thyroid hormone from working. See attached, and go through this by way of a process of elimination. No matter how much thyroid hormone you are taking, whether synthetic or natural, you cannot make it work without you first address what is stopping it from working.
