With T3 that low you must be feeling terrible. Most people on thyroid treatment feel best with T3 near the top of the range. When your results come back if they are the same as this then it's time to start adding T3. You need to make sure your adrenals are strong enough and you have enough iron first though. Guest guest
Hi Nick Walking dead comes to mind. I think you are right re T3, also I may need to support my adrenals plus take other Minerals and Vitamins, but I wanted to wait until I had my results back to know how much and exactly what else I need to take. Guest guest
FYI - I was not taking any supplements that I can remember and I do not remember if I had stopped my thyroine before the tests. I was told all the following blood tests were normal, other than thyroid antibodies and that was done by the doctor just out of interest to see why I had an underactive thyroid. It did not alter the treatment of 150mg Thyroine daily. BLOOD TESTS REF RANGES MAY 2009 TSH – 1.4 sorry no ref range - Most people feel best with their TSH around 1.0 (depending on whether they are on T4 or T3. T4 – 14.1 sorry no ref range - If using a similar ref. range to us, this would be about 9 - 22. For anybody not on any thyroid hormone replacement, their level should be just above the middle of the range so they should show a level of around 17 - but for those on thyroid hormone replacement, it should be well into the upper third of the reference range. Your free T4 at 14.1 therefore is a little on the low side.. T3 – 0.8 sorry no ref range - Without a ref. range, impossible to tell you ATG – 94.2 under 34 - ATPO – 328.2 less than 12 - yes, you have antibodies to your thyroid. This is a cause of your hypothyroidism. Antibodies see your thyroid gland as public enemy number one and set about its gradual complete destruction. You may have other autoimmune diseases, but doesn't necessarily follow that you will get any problems. March 2010 LH – 6.8 Follicular 2.4-12.6 - Not good with sex hormones, perhaps somebody else will come along and help with these. Ovulation 14.0-95.6 Luteal 1.0-11.4 Menopausal 7.7-58.5 Testosterone – 1.51 0.22-2.9 SHBG 24.0 16.0-120.0 Free Androgen Index 0.06 under 0.09 TSH - 2.47 0.3-4.2 - This is rising, showing that the pituitary is needing to secrete more TSH to nudge the thyroid gland into producing more thyroid hormone. T4 – 8.71 5.10-14.10 - I am assuming this is your free T4 and not Total T4. Free T4 is very low in the reference range - it should be in the upper third. T3 – 0.81 0.8-2.0 - Again, assuming this is Free T3 and not Total T3. This is getting very low. Probably not secreting enough thyroxine to convert to the active thyroid hormone T3. AUGUST 2010 Creatine – 57.06 53.0-110.0 - low Sodium – 142 136.0-145.0 - fine Potassium – 4.1 3.5-5.1 0 - this is low and needs watching. Potassium must not be allowed to go too low. Eat tomatoes and bananas and foods high in potassium. TSH – 0.338 0.49-4.57 - very suppressed. T4 – 130.64 80.0-160.0 - why the different reference range from the one above. This is a better level of free T4 (if it is FT4 and not Tt4) T3 – 0.64 1.0-2.8 - I get the feeling this is Total T3 and not free T3 - so no use really. We need to know what the free T3 result was to see whether the thyroxine is converting or not. Would appreciate any feedback on these test results, although the new ones I am waiting for are probably far more important. From the information I have gathered I have started the following - following a gluten free diet, taking 200mcg Selenium daily at breakfast along with 4000mg of Vit C (powder). I have also been following a diet because of Candida, (I did the jellyfish test). For the Candida I have taken 150mg Diflucan, as per Dr P, and will do so once a week for 3 weeks. I have also found Garlic Extract here and some good probiotics. What's the 'jellyfish test'? In addition I have been taking my temperature every morning and it has fluctuated between 96.9 and 97.9. I have also taken my BP and think it is low, average - 90s/50s. My heart rate also appears very erratic from 51 to 87. This could point to low adrenal reserve. Have you done the Adrenal Questionnaire in our FILES Section? Answer all the questions there and see how you score and if high, you might want to do the 24 hour salivary adrenal profile to check where your levels of cortisol and DHEA lie at four specific times during the day.
