Guest guest
Welcome here Laney! Glad you could make it... It sounds like you had a great midwife to keep you informed... We will not be vaccinating our new baby (still working on a name...) and I will not be doing any more for Raiden. Raiden is only about 1/3 immunized, and it is more than I had originally planned for him... But life moves forward! Our ped. is pretty ok with us. He will tell us about the vaxes, but leave the choice up to us. But his nurses cannot stand us because of our choices! Sindeahttp://www.geocities.com/camerasindea/HURFamily.html www.hurphotography.com My name is Laney. I am married, and we have one son, who is now a little over 2 1/2 years old. We live in Seattle, WA.I was introduced to this list by two gals that I know thru another eGroups list. I am really happy to know that there are people with like minds out there in this world as I get to feeling like "one in 2 billion" sometimes with my choice not to vaccinate my child. My decision not to vaccinate my son came after my midwife informed me that I really should do some research before allowing my son to be vaccinated. (I was unaware that I even had the choice...)She recommended several books for me to read while I was still pregnant. I borrowed them from her, then after devouring them, I put my library card into full swing and checked out and read anything that I could get my hands on regarding vaccinations. I have also used the Internet for some of my research. I read pro and cons. Medical "reasoning" for and extremists opinions against. After compiling all of this info, my husband and I agreed to not have Cody vaccinated, at least, not at first. After Cody was born, my research continued (as it still does today) and we still choose not to have any shots done. My first "scare" tactic came from the pediatrician at the hospital...he told me he didn't think we would be allowed to take my son home since we weren't allowing them to put the erythromycin in Cody's eyes (I asked why we needed this, I had tested negative for gonorrhea) and we refused the Hep B shot. He threatened to call CPS (child protective services) and then left the room...he came back about 30 minutes later and said we could go home...I asked if he had contacted CPS and he mumbled something and walked out of our lives for good.My son's doctor isn't pleased about our choice and Cody even has a big HUGE bright orange flyer in his medical records at the doctors office that says "THIS CHILD IS NOT VACCINATED...PLEASE CONSULT WITH PARENT or GUARDIAN ON THE IMPORTANCE OF REGULAR VACCINATIONS...."yadda, yadda, yadda. You get the idea.Anyway, that is probably more than any of you wanted to know about me. I want to send a warm thank you to my friends who introduced me to this group, and also to the person responsible for the creation of the list.I look forward to the wealth of knowledge that will be filling my mailbox :)Laney
Guest guest
Laney, Welcome, keep searching for a better ped. who will at least not patronise you for your decision. They are out there. Mine is a family practicioner and a homeopath and even writes article on how important vaccinations are, but doesn't give me greif about me not. I sympathise with your birth ordeal. A nurse at ours threatened to report us to CPS (although our midwife shielded it from us and we didn't find out until later) for not doing the eye ointment (she swore that no one is monogamous and it didn't matter if I tested neg. for gonnor. and chylamidea) and trying to go home before 24 hours. This time we are doing a home birth. -----
Guest guest
How insulting!!!! My husband and i were both virgins when we got married and have remained monogamas. What a cynical, nasty person! After our irritating birth center in a hospital experience, i am having a home birth too!!! Hurray for lay midwives!! Christin
