Guest guest
Hi there, just to remind you, my name is Nicola, I am 48 and currently live in Dubai. I was lucky enough to find this site, and join in December 2011, after reading an article in the Daily Mail which someone bought over for me. I was diagnosed with an under active thyroid about 16 years ago and have just been taking 150 mg thyroxine a day ever since. No doctor I saw in the UK cared enough to find out why I was still ill, from reading the forum over the last month I realise that unfortunately and shockingly, this appears to be the norm. In Dubai health care is different to the UK, all expats have to have private health insurance, and luckily my husband's company provide an excellent one. You also do not register with a particular GP, there is no central GP system. What you have is a large number of Clinics and Hospitals and you can choose who you see for help, you can pick a different doctor each time or stick with one if you are happy. I was with a family doctor, like a GP, last year however she has left Dubai, which was lucky as I have now found an excellent South African family doctor, who is very open to helping me, reading DR Ps book, and also prescribing T3 if needed. (Although both T3 and NDT are not available in Dubai, they are also not banned). He has requested as many of the blood test as he could, which have been recommended on here, but is still waiting for the results. This is because some have to be sent outside Dubai for them to be done. I will post these when I get them. Because of my new found knowledge I wanted a copy of any previous blood tests done by my old family doctor, this was so easy to get here, all I had to do was contact the clinic and they had them all ready for collection the following morning for no charge. The following blood tests are my older tests but I wanted to understand what they were showing, this is why I am posting them now. FYI - I was not taking any supplements that I can remember and I do not remember if I had stopped my thyroine before the tests. I was told all the following blood tests were normal, other than thyroid antibodies and that was done by the doctor just out of interest to see why I had an underactive thyroid. It did not alter the treatment of 150mg Thyroine daily. From the information I have gathered I have started the following - following a gluten free diet, taking 200mcg Selenium daily at breakfast along with 4000mg of Vit C (powder). I have also been following a diet because of Candida, (I did the jellyfish test). For the Candida I have taken 150mg Diflucan, as per Dr P, and will do so once a week for 3 weeks. I have also found Garlic Extract here and some good probiotics. In addition I have been taking my temperature every morning and it has fluctuated between 96.9 and 97.9. I have also taken my BP and think it is low, average - 90s/50s. My heart rate also appears very erratic from 51 to 87. I have an appointment back in the UK in March to see Dr P and I have also received a copy of his book, ordered via TPA and Amazon. I will of course post my up to date results when I get them.
