Guest guest
Hello Judy Welcome to the forum! Can you advise what you mean by sleep deprivation? Do you fall asleep then wake up, or can you not fall asleep? Please advise...what your symptoms are exactly? (I have sleep apnoea, so a differnt form of sleep problem - if i don't use my machine then i stop breathing 90 times an hour, gasping for breath - so it's important to know what your problems are, exactly. No one on here is medically qualified but if you list the symptoms then it may be easier to point you in the right direction.) Have you heard of melatonin? These are some symptoms of melatonin deficiency - please review them and see if they fit? put 0 if it doesn't apply to you, 4 if it applies very much so, and anything inbetween is 1,2 or a 3. If you want to do the whole questionnaire then look in the files here, it's from an excel spreadsheet thyroid treatment/files/MEDICAL%20QUES\ TIONNAIRES/ Hormone questionnaire by Dr Hertoghe Melatonin I look older than I am I have trouble falling sleep at night I wake up during the night And I can't get back to sleep My mind is busy with anxious throughts while I'm trying to fall asleep My feet are too hot at night When I get up, I don't feel rested I feel like I'm living out of sync with the world, going to bed late and waking up late I can't tolerate jet lag I somke, dring, and/or use a beta-blocker or a sleep aid If they do fit, and you wanted to try melatonin, you can buy a very good sublingual one from a store in the EU (the order only takes a couple of days to get here. You just let the tablet dissolve under your tongue before bed...simple...some people take a tablet they swallow (at about 10x the dose), but i was advised to take this form by an expert in this area and it works well for me. http://www.eurohealthproject.com/hormones/biotonin.html I take 0.2mg, you may or may not need more depending on age and how bad you are... Guest guest
How long have you been taking 30mgs Armour Thyroid? Have you been tested to see whether you need iodine? Post the results of your 24 hour salivary adrenal profile together with the reference range for each of the tests done on the forum as soon as you receive them. You may well find that your midnight result shows high levels of cortisol. Never, never accept results from your doctor as " normal " . Always, always, always ask the doctor for the numbers together with the reference range for each of the tests done and post them here on the forum so we can help with their interpretation. Many doctors tell you your results are normal wherever they appear within a reference range. We need to know whether they are at the top, the middle or the bottom of the range. Ask your GP to let you have a copy of all your recent blood tests. Doctors are not allowed to withhold any information that you request from your medical notes under The Data Protection Act 1998. Where in your body are you suffering 'unrelated pain'? The specific nutrients that should be tested are iron, transferrin saturation%, ferritin, magnesium, folate, copper and zinc. If any of these are low, thyroid hormone cannot be properly utilised at the cellular level and therefore whatever is low must be supplemented. Luv - Sheila My question is, is there anything else I should be looking at in the forums experience re the chronic sleep issue? Some weeks back I had several bloods done at GP as they were just being cautious with some other unrelated pain I was having. Have no idea what they were checking (not thyroid) - but was told all was normal. I see people talking about iron and other Vit D tests? I take Valerian and Magnesium. For adrenals, Pantothenic Acid, B50, Also take selenium, Co Q10, Vit C 4500mg. Milk Thistle. Vit D3. DHEA. L-Theanine and Iodine. .. No virus found in this message. Guest guest
Thanks Shelia have been taking 30mg Armour thyroid, which I only noticed last night when examining the pot is Erfa for x 1 yr. Iodine - I am taking. As from today I am increasing AT by 1quarter grain, & will take sublingually as in the Dr Peatfield notes - I feel much more empowered to have a try myself since comimng into this forum & re-reading Dr P's info. You mention this - The specific nutrients that should be tested are iron, transferrin > saturation%, ferritin, magnesium, folate, copper and zinc. WHERE would I get this test done privately? Genova? GP is a non starter. Although I will ask for the results of blood test done in Sept/Oct 11. The pain was due to a urinary tract infection which I had no other symptoms for. For sure will post my adrenal test results & thyroid urine test. BTW - I sense that getting GP's involved is part of the awareness campaign. I am all for that & have altered 1 GP in the practice thinking around alternative meds especially for Urinary tract infections and other ways of curing/preventing them (she sadly is no longer at the surgery) Right now. I just need to get myself feeling better to be able to function/work. My GP experience was awful 3 yrs ago, hence sought alternative help. Was taking Thyodine from US, but they changed a timny part of the formulation, did not tell anyone, and it no longer supported me. Although even with that I had sleep issues. Thanks so much for the help. Guest guest
Thanks Chris I do know about Melatonin ( from US Is 3 mg sublingual by Lab it did not really work - perhaps I did not try it for long enough?)but not the one you mention, I will take a look & the big questionnaire too. In brief. MOSTLY:- I get to sleep quickly. was waking at around 2am, but now is 12.15am 'ish. So recently 1.5hrs sleep has been it, then cat napping therafter. OCCASIONALLY - I can't get to sleep, I feel that is brought about by worrying about not getting to sleep cos I have a meeting the next day or have to be somewhere and have my brain with me! (I work from home - so blessed with that) So in answer to your list below, I only have these 3 that I cpould tick. Guest guest
Judy, I tried the oral melatonin years ago and it left me feeling horrible; the sublingual one is good in my experience. Have you tried 5-htp or tryptophan? have you looked into your adrenal system to see how that is functioning? What background do your advisers have?
